Modular construction is the use of volumetric building modules where the units form the structure of the building as well as enclose usable space. Modular construction is particularly popular for hotels and student residences due to the economies of scale available from many similar sized modules and the particular benefit of reduced site construction time.

System for modular building construction

Construction systems for erecting building structures comprise a plurality of prefabricated interconnectable modular building units, each unit not meeting at least one of the ISO certification criteria for transport of cargo, but each unit comprising a frame shaped as a rectangular parallelopiped and comprised of framing members and a plurality of nodes, each node situated at a corner of said frame for selective interconnection with other units, the nodes and the exterior dimensions of the frame conforming to ISO shipping standards such that each unit is transportable using the ISO intermodal transportation system, and such that when the units are aggregated horizontally and vertically and adjacent units are interconnected, a building structure comprising at least one habitable space is formed. The modular units are assembled in a factory remote from the job site, and are there constructed to a semi-finished state, including installation of one or more of interior fit-out systems and finishes, exterior envelope systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, environmental systems, and fire protection systems, following which the semi-finished modular units are transported from the factory to the job site, where they are craned into place and secured to form the structure being erected, a plurality of adjacent pairs of semi-finished modular units also being “stitched” together, and the semi-finished modular units are thereafter constructed to a finished state.

The present disclosure is directed towards a biomechanical implant and anterior, lateral or posterior instrumentation construct. The construct may be of unitary or modular construction, whereby a single molded construction can form the entire assembly, in which case the through holes may be adapted to receive a metallic insert for screw fixation; or alternatively be of a modular construction wherein the anterior / lateral instrumentation and intervertebral spacer are designed for removable locking engagement, one with the other, for insertion by the surgeon as a unitary construct. A unique feature of the construct resides within the instrumentation construction, whereby a single opening formed therein permits two bone screws, or the like fastener device, to be positioned within both the superior and inferior vertebral bodies surrounding the spacer implant, or, for example in the case of a corpectomy or diskectomy with cage insertion, wherein two screws can be fixed within a single vertebral body through a single through hole, and wherein the bone screws are constructed and arranged to cooperate with the retention plate so as to provide locking engagement, one to the other, with the retention plate, upon final fixation thereof. Screw retention elements of alternative shape, based upon the choice of vertical or horizontal orientation, based upon an opened figure eight design, are provided for insertion in a groove formed in the borehole of the instrumentation plate which allows insertion of each fixation element but will prevent a loosened fixation element from falling out of the plate.

Multi-function layout square with laser

A multi-function layout square of modular construction having a laser that is capable of performing multiple functions is disclosed. The multi-function square has a metallic outer casing with magnetic properties, with a protractor plate slidably, pivotally, and removably attached by thumbscrews to the casing that can be moved and rotated with respect to the casing and slid linearly along a portion of the length of the casing. When the protractor plate is removed the casing may be used as a level, a plumb bob, a ruler, and a compass. When the protractor plate is attached the tool may be used as a framing square, roofing framing square or rafter square, and a gauge or scribe for straight lines, arcs, or circles. The laser, a switch, and a pair of bubble level vials are contained in a module installed at one end of the casing, and a second module containing batteries is removably installed at the other end of the casing. Each module has electrical contacts that engage the interior surface of the casing and contacts that engage the batteries when the modules are installed and abutted. When the switch is on, a circuit is completed through the metallic casing, which electrically connects the batteries to the laser. The casing may be suspended vertically from a support surface by passing a string or wire through a bore in one of the thumbscrews, may be mounted on a tripod, or may be magnetically attached to metal objects.

Modular construction system

A system of modular assembly comprising a plurality of structural members. Each of the plurality of structural members comprises at least two slots along a lengthwise side. A first one of the at least two slots defines a first outside slot which is located nearest to a first widthwise side and a second one of the at least two slots defines a second outside slot which is located nearest to a second widthwise side. The distance between the slot axis of the first outside slot and the first widthwise side is a predetermined slot-to-side distance, and the distance between the slot axis of the second outside slot and the second widthwise side is a whole-number multiple of the predetermined slot-to-side distance. The distance between each of the slot axes of the at least two slots along one of said lengthwise sides is a whole-number multiple of the predetermined slot-to-side distance. The plurality of structural members comprises a first vertical structural member, a second vertical structural member, a first horizontal member and a second horizontal structural member. The first outside slot of the first vertical structural member is detachably connected slot-to-slot to the first outside slot of the first horizontal structural member, the second outside slot of the first vertical structural member is detachably connected slot-to-slot to the first outside slot of the second horizontal structural member, the first outside slot of the second vertical structural member is detachably connected slot-to-slot to the second outside slot of the first horizontal structural member, and the second outside slot of the second vertical structural member is detachably connected slot-to-slot to the second outside slot of the second horizontal member such that the first vertical structural member is substantially parallel to the second vertical structural member and substantially perpendicular to the first horizontal structural member and the second horizontal structural member.
