Skin resurfacing and treatment using biocompatible materials

Biocompatible materials are propelled at the skin with sufficient velocity to cause desired resurfacing of skin layers to the desired penetration depth. The materials, such as dry ice or water ice, are harmonious with the human body and thus eliminate foreign body reactions. Various materials may be used in combination, including local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors in solid or liquid form. The biocompatible solid or liquid particles are suspended in a cold carrier fluid and propelled through an insulated delivery system to the surface of the skin. The treatment of diseased skin lesions may be accomplished using the present invention as a drug delivery system.

Mobile visual commerce system

A visual commerce engine can provide information related to an object based on an image of the object. The visual commerce engine receives from a user device an image of an object and a location within the image associated with the object, and analyzes the image to detect potential objects depicted in the image. From this set a detected object can be selected based on the received location's proximity to any of the detected potential objects. A description of the detected object can then be determined and compared with a library of objects to identify similar, identical, or related objects.

Button head tie

A button head tie has a button head and a tie strap. The button head is a generally flat member having an aperture for receiving the tie strap. The aperture includes lead-in ramps to facilitate tie strap insertion and is configured to prevent angled tie strap insertion. The tie strap is a flat elongate member having a wedge that is captured within the aperture. The remainder of the strap passes through the aperture. The wedge and strap have teeth and serrations on both sides, respectively, the teeth and serrations being engageable. In use, the strap is looped around a bundle and inserted into the aperture to either side of the wedge. Strap insertion force is reduced by standoff tabs which elevate the wedge out of aperture, temporarily, during installation. When loop tension is applied to the bundle, the wedge is pulled into the aperture, compressively locking the strap.

Roof vent having labyrinth features

A roof vent construction which is comprised of an assembly including a cowl, a base, and a cowl retaining member. These elements provide a structure which provides cover for rain and discourages rain from entering the vent underneath the cowl, but nevertheless allows for suitable ventilation as needed. In one embodiment a configuration is used in which an external baffle is used which air passes before passing underneath a cowl. Once the air is passed underneath the cowl, the air then passes over one and one configuration two internal baffles before the air passes out of a pair of vent cavities defined by the base. In a second configuration, a cowl extends substantially to the leading edge of the construction. Air flows underneath the leading edge of the cowl and then passes over a large internal baffle, over a first small internal baffle, and finally over a second small internal baffle before passing through the vent cavities and out of the structure. Another invention relates to the use of two surface portions on the vent assembly, one surface portion configured to match a first course of tiles and the other surface portion configured to match a second course of tiles adjacent to said first course of tiles.

Method of analyzing multi-sequence MRI data for analysing brain abnormalities in a subject

The present invention, referred to as Oasis is Automated Statistical Inference for Segmentation (OASIS), is a fully automated and robust statistical method for cross-sectional MS lesion segmentation. Using intensity information from multiple modalities of MRI, a logistic regression model assigns voxel-level probabilities of lesion presence. The OASIS model produces interpretable results in the form of regression coefficients that can be applied to imaging studies quickly and easily. OASIS uses intensity-normalized brain MRI volumes, enabling the model to be robust to changes in scanner and acquisition sequence. OASIS also adjusts for intensity inhomogeneities that preprocessing bias field correction procedures do not remove, using BLUR volumes. This allows for more accurate segmentation of brain areas that are highly distorted by inhomogeneities, such as the cerebellum. One of the most practical properties of OASIS is that the method is fully transparent, easy to implement, and simple to modify for new data sets.

System for search and analysis of systematic defects in integrated circuits

Disclosed is a method of locating systematic defects in integrated circuits. The invention first performs a preliminary extracting and index processing of the circuit design and then performs feature searching. When performing the preliminary extracting and index processing the invention establishes a window grid for the circuit design and merges basis patterns with shapes in the circuit design within each window of the window grid. The invention transforms shapes in a each window into feature vectors by finding intersections between the basis patterns and the shapes in the windows. Then, the invention clusters the feature vectors to produce an index of feature vectors. After performing the extracting and index processing, the invention performs the process of feature searching by first identifying a defect region window of the circuit layout and similarly merging basis patterns with shapes in the defect region window. This merging process can include rotating and mirroring the shapes in the defect region. The invention similarly transforms shapes in the defect region window into defect vectors by finding intersections between basis patterns and the shapes in the defect region. Then, the invention can easily find feature vectors that are similar to the defect vector using, for example, representative feature vectors from the index of feature vectors. Then, the similarities and differences between the defect vectors and the feature vectors can be analyzed.

Pistol conversion from an automatic weapon

A semi-automatic pistol is created by the modification of a fully automatic sub-machine gun Sa vz. 61. The semi-automatic pistol is constructed partly from original parts of the Sa vz. 61 sub-machine gun, i.e. barrel, receiver, trigger, trigger lever and pistol grip, partly from modified parts of Sa vz. 61 sub-machine gun, i.e. hammer, interrupter and bolt, and partly from newly manufactured parts, i.e. semi-automatic frame without a groove in the bridge for the release lever and openings in rear stop for retarder assembly and without rails for folding stock on the outside of the rear wall, and a new safety lever with holes and grooves in such a positions that only semi-automatic fire is possible in its forward position. Some parts of the Sa vz. 61 sub-machine gun are removed completely, i.e. original frame, original safety lever, release lever, folding stock and retarder group (bolt hook, weight, counterweight, spring). A method of converting an automatic sub-machine gun into a semi-automatic pistol is also described.

Method of removing a sacrificial emitter feature in a BICMOS process with a super self-aligned BJT

A method of removing a sacrificial emitter feature in a bipolar complementary metal oxide semiconductor (BICMOS) process with a super self-aligned bipolar junction transistor (BJT) is disclosed. According to the new method, a mask layer, such as an oxide deposited using high density plasma (HDP) techniques, is deposited over an extrinsic base layer and over a sacrificial emitter structure. Because of the particular characteristic of the HDP oxide, the deposition of HDP oxide forms a triangular-like structure over the sacrificial emitter structure having a maximum thickness less than the thickness of the HDP oxide over the extrinsic base layer. This facilitates the complete removal of the HDP oxide above the sacrificial emitter layer without the complete removal of the HDP oxide above the extrinsic base layer. This allows the removal of the sacrificial emitter structure while the remaining HDP oxide, serving as a mask, protects the underlying extrinsic base layer.
