Unlike a mixture of rain and snow, ice pellets, or hail, freezing rain is made entirely of liquid droplets. The raindrops become supercooled while passing through a sub-freezing layer of air hundreds of meters above the ground, and then freeze upon impact with any surface they encounter, including the ground, trees, electrical wires, aircraft, and automobiles. The invention discloses an anti-freeze rain gauge based on infrared distance measurement and a control method. A shell is internally provided with a water container and a measuring cylinder. An intakepipe leading to the measuring cylinder is arranged at the bottom of the water container, and the intake pipe is equipped with a first solenoid valve. A drainage pipe is arranged at the bottom of themeasuring cylinder, and the drainage pipe is equipped with a second solenoid valve. Heating devices are arranged at the bottoms of the water container and the measuring cylinder and on the water intake pipe and the drainage pipe respectively. Temperature sensors are arranged at the water container and at the measuring cylinder respectively. A foam floating plate is arranged in the measuring cylinder, and an infrared distance sensor is arranged on the top. The rain gauge further includes a control unit. The temperature sensors and the infrared distance sensor transmit the collected data to thecontrol unit. The control unit controls the on-off of the heating devices and the two solenoid valves, and obtains rainfall information according to the data collected by the infrared distance sensorand sends the rainfall information to a monitoring center. The problem of rain gauge failure caused by rainwater freezing at temperature below 0 DEG C is solved. Remote monitoring of rainfall is realized. Data support is provided for geological disaster preventing or warning.
