A read-write processing device communicates with an RFID tag provided with a semiconductor memory to carry out read and write processes. Smart instrumentation and monitoring provide primary engine instrumentation for an aircraft. The instrumentation generates real time engine power available data for the entire power regime and flight envelope of the aircraft while engine monitoring functions track, record and output performance usage data, trend data, and flight profile data. Generated data is provided to an aircraft flight manual and mission management module that automatically calculates and generates aircraft operational and performance data needed to safely operate the aircraft. The generated data is selectively displayed on flat-panel cockpit displays and/or electronic kneeboard displays in a graphical format that enhances aircrew situational awareness and permits aircrew members to operate the aircraft with its intended margin of safety.

A performance control technique for a processing system that includes one or more adaptively-clocked processor cores provides improved performance/power characteristics. An outer feedback loop adjusts the power supply voltage(s) provided to the power supply voltage domain(s) powering the core(s), which may be on a per-core basis or include multiple cores per voltage domain. The outer feedback loop operates to ensure that each core is meeting specified performance, while the cores also include an inner feedback loop that adjusts their processor clock or other performance control mechanism to maximize performance under present operating conditions and within a margin of safety. A muffler for enhanced arc protection is described. In the case of an internal arc event in an electrical enclosure, the muffler exhausts arc gas and plasma parallel to the enclosure surface, instead of directly forward where persons may be located. The muffler includes perforated plates and baffle plates in its interior space. The perforated plates have offset perforation patterns from one another, and the baffle plates are provided on opposing walls, causing the plasma and gas to make multiple directional changes. The perforated plates also filter the arc gas and plasma. These directional changes and filtering result in an energy reduction from the exhaust, which provides an increased margin of safety. A low powering apparatus for automatic reduction of power in active and standby modes is disclosed. The low powering apparatus includes a state detector, a margins of safety device and a positioning device. The state detector detects a first or second state, such as a standby state and an active state, that has predominated in a recent past. The margins of safety device indicates safe low power margins in correlation to the detected first or second state. The positioning device adjusts the power level according to the outputs of the state detector and margins of safety device. Thus, the low powering apparatus minimizes the power level of a system at the first or second state without compromising full performance of the system.

One embodiment disclosed relates to a method of providing dynamic power redundancy for a system. A number of power supply units, n, that are presently in an up state is tracked. In addition, a number of power supply units, N, that are presently needed to supply power to the system is dynamically determined. If a margin of safety corresponding to a difference between n and N reaches a minimum acceptable level, then action is taken to increase the margin of safety.

The electroluminescent wire is powered by a portable power supply attached to the handle of the pet leash causing illumination of the electroluminescent wire continuously or intermittently at a selected blink rate. Alternatively, the wound electroluminescent wire surrounds a cylindrical braided reflective sleeve that covers the central braided rope. The cylindrical braided reflective sleeve reflects incident light back to its source while the electroluminescent illumination is provided. Reflection and illumination of light are omnidirectional. The braided construction of the central core and reflective sleeve, together with the configuration of the electroluminescent wire, resist tensile, twist and torsional forces, enabling reliable emission of omnidirectional illumination and reflectivity. In combination, the omnidirectional illumination and reflectivity, strength and flexibility provide a higher margin of safety for pets and their owners while walking in dimly lit environments where vehicles are encountered.

A system and method for creating an optimized composite laminate structure containing a plurality of plies. The system has a processor and a memory, including an application interface. The application interface, when executed by the processor, is configured to operably: receive an input file having one or more of a maximum number of plies, design variables, material properties, and design constraints; determine an initial layup sequence defining parameters of a fiber orientation angle for each ply, and a total percentage of plies at a given fiber orientation angle; iteratively adjust the parameters, until an optimum set of parameters is obtained that achieves one or more predetermined margins of safety, and that achieves optimization of the composite laminate structure; and generate an output file for creating a layup, according to the parameters. The system further has a layup system for creating the optimized composite laminate structure.

In a tire designing method, at least one of a tire profile shape, a shape of a tire component member and physical property data of the tire component member is tentatively selected as a parameter to prepare an initial tire model (30) representing the pneumatic tire by using a finite number of elements, and at least one of a stress acting on the initial tire model by the inner pressure filling processing and the physical property data used for the initial tire model is modified corresponding to a predetermined measure of elapsed time, to thereby deform the initial tire model and a tire profile shape after a change with time is predicted by using the deformed initial tire model. By preparing the tire model (30) with the predicted tire profile shape and applying the inner pressure filling processing and road contact processing thereto, the maximum principal strains in the elements of the tire model (30) are calculated, and the margins of safety of the tire component members are calculated by using the maximum principal strains. The tentatively selection is repeated until the calculated margins are equal to or larger than a pre-set reference margin of safety so that a tire with excellent durability can be designed.
