Folding directional antenna

An antenna array formed on a deformable dielectric material or substrate includes a center element and plurality of radial elements extending from a center hub. In the operative mode, the radial elements are folded upwardly into an approximately vertical position, with the center element at the center of the hub and the radial elements circumferentially surrounding the center element. In one embodiment the center element serves an active element of the antenna array and the radial elements are controllable in a directive or reflective state to effect a directive beam pattern from the antenna array. When not in use, the antenna elements are deformed into a plane and can therefore be integrated into a housing for compact storage. In a phased array embodiment, the center element is absent and the plurality of radial elements, are controllable to steer the antenna beam.

Conformable layered antenna array

A low-cost antenna array and method of manufacturing the array, in a planar form or in a structurally flexible or curved array structure are shown. The antenna array has a plurality of metallic antenna electrical and radiator elements formed on a foam core layer bonded onto a metallic ground layer. The radiator elements preferably are formed on a thin dielectric carrier layer bonded to the foam core layer. The array can include one or more additional dielectric layers, each with a plurality of parasitic radiator elements formed thereon, mounted on top of the electrical elements. Manufacturing the array preferably includes bonding the layers to one another. The electrical and radiator elements are formed, preferably by etching, before the foam core layer is bonded to the ground layer. The additional dielectric layer and the parasitic radiators then are bonded to the already formed electrical elements on the ground layer.

The invention comprises a Digital UHF / VHF (DUV) Antenna with a driven DUV antenna preferably boosted by an amplifier mounted close to the DUV dipole and a DUV signal line with antenna, amplifier, and signal line contacts being conductively bonded. Broadband dipole antenna to be worn by a user and associated methods

An antenna includes a dipole feed, a first dipole element connected to and extending outwardly from the dipole feed, a transmission line extending from the dipole feed in an opposite direction, and a flexible electrically conductive sleeve surrounding the transmission line and connected to and extending outwardly from the dipole feed. The electrically conductive sleeve may thus serve as a second dipole element and as a balun for the antenna. The antenna may by removably fastened to a garment of the user by at least one fastener, and the antenna may be connected to a radio also carried by the user. To enhance broadband performance, the dipole feed may include a broadband matching network, and the antenna may include a noise filter coupled to the transmission line adjacent an end of the flexible electrically conductive sleeve opposite the dipole feed.

The folded-monopole whip antenna is for a portable wireless communication device having a portable housing and wireless communication circuitry carried thereby. The connectivity parameters are stored in a tree structure. For example, a proxy may be a node in the tree with its connectivity parameters listed as leafs. Similarly, a network access point (NAP) object may be a node within the tree. The parameters stored within the tree may be created, modified, deleted, and queried remotely or locally. Any portion of the tree may be modified or queried without having to send the entire tree to the device. Provisioning and modification of the tree is enabled via eXtensible Markup Language (XML). A wireless access protocol (WAP) sub tree is defined under the proxy object. The NAP object may also be used to help manage Wi-Fi connections and desktop pass-through connections. A vendor specific sub tree is also included within the tree that may be used to contain vendor specific settings.

Flexible antenna and method of manufacture

A flexible microwave antenna having a “fish-scale” ground plane is provided. The approach represents a significant advance in the combined thickness and flexibility that can be achieved, especially when using relatively thick substrates which are important for optimum antenna performance. An increase in gain was observed when bent in a positive radius of curvature and further reduction of back radiation.
