System architecture for vacuum processing

A system for processing substrates in plasma chambers, such that all substrates transport and loading / unloading operations are performed in atmospheric environment, but processing is performed in vacuum environment. The substrates are transported throughout the system on carriers. The system's chambers are arranged linearly, such that carriers move from one chamber directly to the next. A conveyor, placed above or below the system's chambers, returns the carriers to the system's entry area after processing is completed. Loading and unloading of substrates may be performed at one side of the system, or loading can be done at the entry side and unloading at the exit side.

Method And System To Charge Batteries Only While Vehicle Is Parked

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle derive all, or at least some, of their power from the electrical grid. The vehicle is provided with a receptacle into which a 110 Volt AC power cord can be plugged. According to the present disclosure, coupling of the external power supply and / or charging are prevented when the vehicle is not in a parked condition. The parked condition is based on the application of a vehicle parking brake and / or a gear shift selector being in a parked position. If a parked condition is not detected, one of the following measures is taken: a relay in the battery charger on board the vehicle is opened thereby disallowing charging; an access door to the receptacle is locked by an access door solenoid; and a plug ejector prevents insertion of a plug into the receptacle.

Surgical knives for large, self-sealing corneal incisions coupled to a universal intraocular lens (IOL) injector

A lens injector includes a thin sheet-like lens glide member, mounted upon a tapered knife, that maintains a wedge-shaped opening in the cornea upon withdrawal of the knife. The lens is thereafter advanced under the cornea by a plunger in the injector that maintains the lens in place as the injector device is removed. A multiple point blade knife may simultaneously make a set of several small, connected incisions. The fact that each blade has only a limited depth means that the resulting wide incision can be created without the need to penetrate deeply into the cornea, as would be necessary with a single-point blade of the desired width. This is especially beneficial for creating Z-shaped incisions, which become self-sealing when internal pressure pushes the inner layer against the outer layer. This shortens the process significantly, which then results in less trauma to the eye and streamlines the entire procedure.

Electro-magnetophoresis display

The present invention is directed to an electro-magnetophoresis display having either the traditional up / down or dual switching mode. The display cells are filled with an electro-magnetophoretic dispersion comprising particles suspended in a solvent and the particles are both charged and magnetized. The display of the invention prevents undesired movement of the particles in the cells. The magnetic force generated by the magnetic layer(s) eliminates the need to provide cells with a threshold voltage high enough to avoid the cross talk and / or cross bias effects. In addition, the dual switching mode allows the particles to move in the up / down direction as well as the planar direction, thus providing a multicolor display of high color quality at very low cost.

Mechanical tissue morcellator

An improvement to a tissue removal device, that is, the addition of an adjustable protective guard and / or a retractable protective guard on the blade guard sheath of a mechanical tissue morcellator is presented. The retractable protective guard can be fixedly located at the distal end of a blade guard sheath and can be openly operated by a spring loaded means or a trigger means. The adjustable protective guard is moveably mounted in close contact around the blade sheath and may be positioned at any point along the length of the blade guard sheath in either direction. The addition of the adjustable protective guard and the retractable protective guard on the blade guard sheath of the mechanical tissue morcellator act to control and direct positioning of the tissue morcellator within the body cavity of the patient.

Complete airway stabilization system and method

An endotracheal airway is established using an endotracheal tube having an exterior retention structure defined by a series of longitudinally spaced recesses separated by projections. A variably-sized orifice in a faceplate constricts within a recess and contacts the projections to create a barrier against movement of the endotracheal tube. The faceplate is retained on the mouth by connection to a stabilization collar which surrounds the neck of the patient to restrain against flexion and extension which could reposition the endotracheal tube from its desired position.
