Systems and methods for determining the configuration of electronic connections

Systems and methods for determining the configuration of a connection between two devices by measuring an electrical characteristic are provided. Using the measured electrical characteristic, a device is able to select an appropriate communication interface, such as serial, Universal Serial Bus (USB), FireWire, parallel, PS / 2, etc., and configure itself appropriately. Systems and methods which determine the physical orientation of a connector with respect to another connector may also be provided alone or in combination with such systems and methods for selecting communication interfaces. The physical orientation of a connector can be determined by measuring an electrical characteristic and a device can then configure itself appropriately. In accordance with the principles of the present invention, device designs can decrease in size and cost as well as simplify operation for the end-user.

Method of selectively determining glycated hemoglobin

A method of determining glycated hemoglobin is provided, by which a ratio of the glycated hemoglobin in a sample can be determined accurately and easily. The ratio of glycated hemoglobin can be determined by degrading a glycated hemoglobin in a whole blood sample selectively with a protease to give a glycated hemoglobin degradation product`; causing a redox reaction between a glycation site of the glycated hemoglobin degradation product and a fructosyl amino acid oxidoreductase; and determining this redox reaction. Further, as shown in FIG. 1, in a whole blood sample, there is a correlation between the ratio of the glycated hemoglobin determined by this method and an HbA1c concentration. Thus, without determining the glycated alpha-amino group as a characteristic structure of HbA1c, an amount of HbA1c can be determined accurately and easily from the determined ratio of the glycated hemoglobin.

Die cushion device for press machine

A die cushion apparatus of a press machine in which a discharge opening of a fluid hydraulic pump / motor is directly connected to a pressure chamber on a cushion pressure production side of a fluid hydraulic cylinder and the torque of a rotating shaft of the fluid hydraulic pump / motor is controlled by an electric motor to control a pressure (die cushion pressure) of the pressure chamber on the cushion pressure production side. It is therefore possible to control the die cushion pressure with excellent responsiveness with respect to a die cushion pressure command and prevent occurrence of a surge pressure. The die cushion apparatus also has excellent energy efficiency since energy required for a die cushioning action that a cushion pad receives when effecting die cushioning of a press machine is regenerated as electrical energy through the fluid hydraulic cylinder, fluid hydraulic pump / motor, and electric motor.

Input device

On a lower case serving as a supporting base, a movable unit is supported to be able to vibrate in an X direction, with a first elastic member interposed therebetween. In the movable unit, a panel assembly is supported on a movable base to be able to vibrate in a Z direction, with a second elastic member interposed therebetween. A vibration generator is mounted on the panel assembly and supported by a third elastic member on the movable base. When the vibration generator generates vibration in the X direction, the entire movable unit vibrates in the X direction. When the vibration generator generates vibration in the Z direction, the panel assembly vibrates in the Z direction. When the panel assembly is pressed with a finger, the force of the pressing operation can be detected by a second detector which is a force sensor.

A catheter system for inserting a self-expanding stent into a bodily vessel. The catheter (1) has a movable sleeve (30), which holds the self-expanding stent in the space (2) when being positioned in the bodily vessel. As the self-expanding stent is released, the sleeve is pushed back by means of the application of fluid to the balloon (20). Here, the movable sleeve (30) can be moved proximally or distally in a precise manner by adjusting the pressure ratio in the balloons (20, 23). A controlled release and renewed capture of the self-expanding stent are possible accordingly.

Ossicular Prostheses Fabricated From Shape Memory Polymers

Ossicular replacement prostheses are manufactured from a non-biodegradable shape memory polymer. Such prostheses can include TORPs, PORPs, and incudo-stapedial joints (ISJs). The prostheses are reshaped upon application of a stimulus to capture a portion of one or more ossicles. The force of capture of a reshaped polymeric prosthesis is less than a comparable reshaped shape memory alloy prosthesis and thereby prevents recipient discomfort and / or pressure induced necrosis of the bone. In addition, biocompatible shape memory polymers can be designed with recoverable strain that is orders of magnitude higher than shape memory alloys. Furthermore, prostheses can be manufactured in a single size and easily trimmed or otherwise modified by the surgeon during the implantation procedure to tailor the prosthesis in size and / or shape for the particular anatomy. Such modification does not negatively effect the ability of the prostheses to engage the ossicle.

Protein cleavage method and thereof

The present invention provides a method for cleaving a glycated protein to obtain an amino acid or a peptide efficiently with a protease. By treating the glycated protein with the protease in the presence of a compound represented by R—X, the amino acid or the peptide is obtained by the cleavage. The R represents an alkyl compound with a carbon number of 9 or more, and preferably is straight-chain alkyl or straight-chain acyl with a carbon number of 9 to 16, branched-chain alkyl or branched-chain acyl with a carbon number of 10 to 40 and a main-chain carbon number of 9 to 16, or straight-chain alkyl that is substituted by cycloalkyl (a carbon number of the cycloalkyl ranges from 3 to 8, and a carbon number of the straight chain ranges from 4 to 13), where X is a sugar residue. Moreover, the glycated protein is, for example, glycated hemoglobin, and preferably β-chain N-terminal amino acid or a β-chain N-terminal peptide is cleaved by the protease treatment.
