Method and system for providing physical security in an area of interest

A system for detecting the presence of an intruder in a protected area utilizes a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value of signals broadcast from transmitting stations deployed in the protected area. The system includes monitoring points for receiving broadcast signals, measuring the RSSI values of the received signals, and transmitting the measured RSSI values to a security system server. The security system server analyzes the RSSI values, and initiates security measures when the physical security of the protected area is violated which is detected when the measured RSSI values deviate from a predetermined strength of the broadcast signals. The security system also has the ability to track objects in the protected area and keep track of their movement in real time and report such movement. The system may be based on a Wi-Fi infrastructure in the protected area.

Universal protocol conversion

A scalable, programmable software based application run on a programmed general-purpose digital computer is used for interconnecting a plurality of heterogeneous network nodes. The application has the ability to convert between any two signaling protocols used, such as those used over a telecommunications network, by converting an originating protocol to a universal non-protocol specific representation, and then converting the universal non-protocol specific representation to a receiving protocol. A call context is used to store information elements created from the originating protocol so that a universal call model applies inter-working rules. The universal call model is also in communication with state machines associated with both the originating and the terminating sides in order to supply the appropriate response signals anticipated by the originating and terminating sides received when each is in communication with its own protocol. As such, the universal call model allows both the originating and terminating sides of a call to operate independently of each other by virtue of the fact that each side deal through the universal call model and not directly with the side for which the protocol message is being converted. Therefore, any protocol is easily converted to any other protocol by first translating the protocol message to the universal protocol non-specific format.

Ultra wide band radar localization

Coherent radar returns gained from Ultra-Wideband Radars are correlated with features extracted from a georeferenced map to refine positional information and pose of an object. Data collected from one or more UWB Radars and other real time sensors affixed on an object can be processed to identify discrete edges or characteristic returns such as a pole, building or the like. These coherent returns can be correlated with features extracted from a georeferenced map. As the UWB Radar(s) location and orientation with respect to the object is (are) known the precise location and pose of the object on the georeferenced map can be determined by matching features found in the map or imagery with those of the coherent return. Moreover the configuration of the UWB Radars can be modified based on a perception of the local environment.

Scheduling Work in a Multi-Node Computer System Based on Checkpoint Characteristics

Efficient application checkpointing uses checkpointing characteristics of a job to determine how to schedule jobs for execution on a multi-node computer system. A checkpoint profile in the job description includes information on the expected frequency and duration of a check point cycle for the application. The checkpoint profile may be based on a user / administrator input as well as historical information. The job scheduler will attempt to group applications (jobs) that have the same checkpoint profile, on the same nodes or group of nodes. Additionally, the job scheduler may control when new jobs start based on when the next checkpoint cycle(s) are expected. The checkpoint monitor will monitor the checkpoint cycles, updating the checkpoint profiles of running jobs. The checkpoint monitor will also keep track of an overall system checkpoint profile to determine the available checkpointing capacity before scheduling jobs on the cluster.
