A video surveillance
system and method for a facility includes multiple video cameras mounted at locations with corresponding coordinates. Each camera has an FOV that extends to cover an FOV range defined by coordinates defining a
field of view (FOV) volume. A controller receives the coordinates of an event location and determines which cameras have an FOV volume encompassing the event location. The
system automatically displays video from cameras covering the event while excluding video from cameras not covering the event. In some cases, the
system supports pan-tilt-
zoom (PTZ) cameras with preset positioning, automatically moving the PTZ cameras to the positioning covering the event location. The system can
handle events spanning a range of locations and can identify blind spots not covered by the FOV of any camera.
