1830 results about "Self-healing" patented technology

Self-healing refers to the process of recovery (generally from psychological disturbances, trauma, etc.), motivated by and directed by the patient, guided often only by instinct. Such a process encounters mixed fortunes due to its amateur nature, although self-motivation is a major asset. The value of self-healing lies in its ability to be tailored to the unique experience and requirements of the individual. The process can be helped and accelerated with introspection techniques such as Meditation.

Self-healing hierarchical network management system, and methods and apparatus therefor

A hierarchical network management system (NMS) in which a plurality of NMS managers, each responsible for different portions or aggregations of a communications network, are logically arranged in a tree structure. The NMS managers are further organized into various sub-groups. The NMS managers within each sub-group monitor the status of one another in order to detect when one of them is no longer operational. If this happens, the remaining operational NMS managers of the sub-group collectively elect one of them to assume the responsibility of the non-operational NMS manager. The NMS is thus "self-healing" in the sense that one NMS manager can dynamically, without operator intervention, assume the responsibilities for another NMS manager.

Integrity verifying and correcting software

An apparatus and method for self-healing of software may rely on a distribution object in a directory services of a network to provide data for controlling distribution of software and installation of files associated therewith. A software object may represent a software product, system, data structure, application, or the like, from a single byte, to a complex program. A directory services system is responsible for maintaining a data store of inter-related logical entities (directory services objects), including software objects and a distribution object containing all distribution information associated with certain distribution processes. Maintenance methods may be programmed into a directory services object or some other executable to verify the existence of files required for particular software. Verification may be completed in association with a launch request, by explicit request, or in an ongoing maintenance procedure. Maintenance may include executables and data to control, complete, and record integrity of distributed files as a distinct activity or as an ongoing, routine, periodic process of verification and appropriate re-installation of files, operating transparently to a user.

Method and system for resolving data inconsistency

Method, system, and programs for resolving data inconsistency in a distributed system having a plurality of replica instances. In response to a read request of at least one data element, a key-specific probability value for the at least one data element of the read request is retrieved. Based on the retrieved key-specific probability value and a system load of the distributed system, a self-healing probability of the at least one data element of the read request is computed. A self-healing transaction that includes the at least one data element of the read request is then generated based on the self-healing probability of the at least one data element. The generated self-healing transaction is further applied to at least some of the plurality of replica instances in the distributed system to resolve data inconsistency.

Self adaptive cement systems

A self-adaptive cement system includes cement, water and at least one additive that reacts or and expands in contact with oil and gas. Several chemical products have been identified including rubber alkylstyrene, polynorbornene, resins such precrosslinked substituted vinyl acrylate copolymers and diatomaceous earth. These additives have the effect of making the cement self-healing in the event of physical failure or damage such as micro-annuli. The self healing property is produced by the contact with subterranean hydrocarbon fluids, the potential repair mechanism is thus activated if and when needed in case of start of loss of zonal isolation. In another embodiment, the expansion is deliberately induced by pumping a hydrocarbon fluid in the vicinity of the set cement.

System and method for performing a cluster topology self-healing process in a distributed data system cluster

A cluster topology self-healing process is performed in order to replicate a data set stored on a failed node from a first node storing another copy of the data set to a second non-failed node. The self-healing process is performed by: locking one of several domains included in the data set, where locking that domain does not lock any of the other domains in the data set; storing data sent from the first node to the second node in the domain; and releasing the domain. This process of locking, storing, and releasing is repeated for each other domain in the data set. Each domain may be locked for significantly less time than it takes to copy the entire data set. Accordingly, client access requests targeting a locked domain will be delayed for less time than if the entire data set is locked during the self-healing process.

This invention describes a high-performance, log-structured implementation of a RAID subsystem that can be efficiently implemented in software. The methods described in this invention are extraordinarily well suited for software-based RAID 5 systems. In one embodiment, the disk storage subsystems receiving a request to write data. Thereafter, the write operation is appended to a first log to identify a storage location of data written to the disk subsystem, wherein the first log consists of a sequence of segments, the segments consist of a sequence of variable length stripes, a length of a stripe varies based on a quantity of disks addressed by a stripe. In response to adding a disk to the disk storage subsystem, increasing a length of the stripes and increasing a number of disks available for striping data. Alternatively, in response to a disk failing within the disk storage subsystem or a disk being removed from the disk storage system, narrowing a length of the stripes.

Self-Healing dental restorative formulations and related methods

ActiveUS20110071234A1Improve the immunitySpeeds up (accelerates) a chemical reactionImpression capsDentistry preparationsSelf-healingDecomposition
Dental restorative formulations comprising two additives incorporated into the continuous phase of a dental material. One additive contains a capsule with a radical initiator. The other additive contains a capsule with one or more monomers and a radical accelerator. The dental restorative formulation is applied and polymerized to form a composite. When a disturbance occurs in the dental composite, the capsules of the additives rupture so that the radical accelerator of the second capsule decomposes the radical initiator of the first capsule to polymerize the one or more monomers of the second capsule thereby healing the dental composite. The radical accelerator controls the rate of decomposition of the radical initiator.

Programmatically serializing complex objects using self-healing techniques

Methods, systems, and computer program products for programmatically serializing complex objects (such as JavaBeans(TM)). In contrast to prior art techniques, a manually-specified data type mapping specification is not required as input to the serialization process. Instead, the present invention programmatically generates this type mapping, responsive to encountering run-time exceptions during the serialization process. The serialization process is therefore "self-healing". This approach is especially advantageous when serializing complex objects that may include complex data types and / or embedded objects. The programmatically-generated type mapping information is preferably used to generate a serialized version of the complex object, and can also be used during deserialization. In addition to improving serialization techniques, this type mapping information facilitates dynamic integration and transformation of data between heterogeneous formats.

Method and system for a self-healing query access plan

A self-healing database engine and optimizer framework support automatically responding to execution errors to allow continued execution of a query plan. Upon encountering an execution error, the database engine automatically initiates a rebuilding of the query plan and executes the rebuilt execution plan. If an error is encountered in the rebuilt query plan then the query implementation methods are analyzed. If a query function is identified for which an alternative implementation method is available, then this alternative implementation method is substituted to create a new query plan. The new query plan is then executed to determine if the error is corrected.

Neural network-based mobility management for healing mobile ad hoc radio networks

A self healing ad hoc communications network and method of training for and healing the network. The network includes wireless devices or nodes that include a neural network element and the ad hoc network operates as a neural network. Some of the nodes are designated as healing nodes that are identified during network training and are strategically located in the network coverage area. Whenever one group of nodes loses connection with another a healing node may reposition itself to reconnect the two groups. Thus, the network can maintain connectivity without constraining node movement.
