Dual-radius glenoid prosthetic component for total shoulder arthroplasty

A dual-radius glenoid component of a shoulder joint prosthesis for use in total shoulder arthroplasty has two radii of curvature. At substantially the center of the articulating surface a first non-conforming radius of curvature is provided, while a second conforming radius of curvature, smaller than that of the first radius of curvature and more closely conforming to the curvature of the humeral component, is disposed about the periphery of the articulating surface. The central non-conforming radius of curvature provides reduced constraint of the humeral component. In contrast, the conforming peripheral radius of curvature provides maximum constraint of the humeral component. When the humeral component is substantially centered on the articulating surface reduced constraint is placed on the prosthesis and less load is transferred to the bone-implant interface. As the humeral component translates towards the periphery, constraint on the prosthesis increases to prevent dislocation.

Continuously Scheduled Model Parameter Based Adaptive Controller

An adaptive process controller performs continuously scheduled process model parameter interpolation to determine a particular set of process model parameters which are used to develop controller tuning parameters for controller tuning. More particularly, a state-based, adaptive PID controller described herein uses a new technique to determine an appropriate process model to be used to perform adaptive tuning over the various operating regions of the plant, and in particular, uses a process model parameter determination technique that enables continuously scheduled process model parameter update over the various plant operating regions or points. The use of this continuously scheduled process model parameter update method provides for smoother transitions between tuning parameters used in the PID controller during adaptive tuning procedures which are implemented based on changes in the operating region or the operating point of the process, thereby providing for better overall control.

Technique to construct 32/33 and other RLL codes

In this invention a thirty three bit word is encoded from a thirty two bit word to conform to RLL coding constraints. A parity bit is added to the coded word after coding is complete. With the parity bit inserted the code satisfies a minimum Hamming weight of nine and no more than eleven consecutive zeros and no more than eleven consecutive zeros in both the odd and even interleaves. A table of "bad" eight bit sequences is used to compare the odd and even interleaves of the right and left halves of the input word that is being encoded. If a "bad" sequence is found, its position in the table points to a second table containing a four bit replacement code that is inserted into the coded output word. Flag bits in the output coded word are set to indicate the violation of the coding constraints and provide a means by which a decoder can be used to reverse the process and obtain the original input word.

System, method and program product for satisfying a service requirement

An intermediary or intermediaries are provided to allow a service requestor to communicate with a service provider according to a service requirement or service policy set forth by the service provider which the service requester is unable to meet directly. To this end, the service requestor determines whether it can communicate with the service provider according to the service requirement. If the service requestor is unable to satisfy the service requirement, but does have some property which is translatable, then the service requestor finds an intermediary that can translate the service requestor's property in order to satisfy the service provider's service requirement. Once the intermediary is found, the service requestor requests translation of its property to satisfy the service provider's service requirement. Thus, the service requestor receives service from the service provider while adhering to the service provider's service policy.

Cover closer

A cover closer having a drive unit for electrically opening and closing a cover of a copying machine or the like is described. The cover closer can ease the burden of manipulation of the cover and minimize the constraints on designing the main body of the copying machine and the like. The cover closer is provided with a compact drive unit having a high reduction ratio by the use of planetary gears which reduce the input torque necessary for opening and closing the cover, so as to downsize an electric motor used in the drive unit. The drive unit can therefore be installed within the hinge structure of the cover closer.
