Battery charger and method of charging a battery

Stationary and on-board battery chargers, methods of charging batteries, electric-vehicle chargers, and vehicles with chargers, including electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. Chargers may automatically charge at the correct battery voltage for various types of batteries. Chargers have variable AC power supplies controlled by digital controllers, isolation transformers, and rectifiers. Transformers may be foil-type, and may have copper foil. Power supplies may be variable-frequency generators and the controllers may control the frequency. Use of the variable frequency generator supply facilitates reduced component size and weight and better battery charging performance. Electric vehicle chargers may have card readers, and vehicles may have batteries and a charger. Methods of charging include identifying the battery type and gradually increasing the charging at different rates of increase while monitoring charging voltage, charging current, or both, until a current lid is reached. Charging may occur at constant current and then at constant voltage.

Skin treating device

A hand held device for removing hard skin from calluses comprises a handle (1) and a cutting head (2) having a base plate (8), and several tubular cutting elements (10) inclined so that their cutting edges lie in inclined planes at an angle of 5° to 45° to a skin contact plane defined by the extremities of the cutting elements. The cutting elements can be arranged in an array of staggered rows.

System for providing thermal application to external body areas of a patient

A thermal applicator for medical use which is worn upon or applied directly to the body of a patient to modify its temperature for therapeutic treatment. The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates the utilization of a heat pipe having first and second ends and a length, the first and second ends communicating with first and second thermally conductive plates, respectively, the first thermally conductive plate configured to communicate with an exterior portion of the body of the patient and to provide localized thermal treatment, the second thermally conductive plate placed at an area removed from the area to be treated, and configured to accept, for example, an ice pack (or other thermal material or apparatus) to affect a change in the temperature of the second thermally conductive plate, cooling the second end of the heat pipe and allowing the heat pipe to cool the first thermally conductive plate, thereby providing localized cooling of the area to which it is applied. An alternative embodiment of the invention contemplates a heat source in lieu of the ice pack, wherein the second thermally conductive plate would function as an evaporator, thereby providing a reverse cycle in the heat pipe, for heating the area to be treated via the first thermally conductive plate. The present invention may be utilized for localized thermal application on various parts of the body, and several examples are illustrated, including an exemplary system to treat plantar fasciitis.

Neck razor

A safety neck razor to be used on the back of a person's neck includes a body having a top surface and a bottom surface, the bottom surface being generally flat and having an opening adapted to releasably secure a razor blade therein. Right and left side contoured edges extend upwardly from the bottom surface and an undulating protuberance extends upwardly from the center of the top surface. The protuberance has a right and a left side with a first well formed between the right side of the protuberance and the right side contoured edge and a second well formed between the left side of the protuberance and the left side contoured edge. The protuberance fits between the fingers of a person's hand and is gripped by the person's fingers so that the fingers rest completely within a respective well.
