A gain adjustment unit uses a power ratio, Padd / Pdif, as an index for judging the strength of speech in an audio signal. Padd is the power of a sum signal of a left channel signal and a right channel signal, and Pdif is the power of the difference signal of the left channel signal and the right channel signal. When the power ratio is small, speech is absent from the audio signal and the gain of the sum signal of the left channel signal and right channel signal is minimized. As a result, it becomes possible to suppress a speech enhancement process when speech is absent from the audio signal to thereby eliminate negative effects associated therewith.

A controller uses fuzzy logic to control the clear ice maker and determine whether to initiate a next ice making cycle based on input signals from a thermistor in the ice storage bin. The controller will prevent initiation of an ice making cycle when the ice bin is at or below a threshold temperature. The controller will also prohibit ice making when the ice bin is at or below a second, slightly higher temperature for more than a prescribed period of time. In this way, the clear ice maker can recognize an uneven distribution of ice and maintain an optimal amount of ice in the bin.

A voltage drop of an output voltage of a DC-DC converter, caused by a wiring resistance, can properly be compensated at low cost. The DC-DC converter is connected to a low-voltage battery through an ignition switch and started up by the ignition switch. A transformation unit transforms a voltage inputted from a high-voltage battery and supplies the voltage to the low-voltage battery. A control circuit calculates a wiring resistance between the transformation unit and the low-voltage battery based on the voltage inputted from the low-voltage battery through the ignition switch in connecting the ignition switch and an output voltage and an output current of the transformation unit. The control circuit corrects a command value of the output voltage of the transformation unit based on the calculated wiring resistance to control the output voltage of the transformation unit. Systems and methods are described that facilitate improving error estimation for calibration error due to clipping of pixels, and compensation therefor, during calibration of a scanner or printer. Calibration patches are measured at a first maximum pixel value threshold and at a slightly lower threshold value. Pixel values for the patches at each threshold are averaged, and a linear model is constructed, which is employed to predict error due to pixel clipping. The error is then compensated for when calibrating the scanner or printer.
