The present invention teaches a method and apparatus for physiological modulation, including neural and gastrointestinal modulation, for the purposes of treating several disorders, including obesity, depression, epilepsy, and diabetes. This includes chronically implanted neural and neuromuscular modulators, used to modulate the afferent neurons of the sympathetic nervous system to induce satiety. Furthermore, this includes neuromuscular stimulation of the stomach to effect baseline and intermittent smooth muscle contraction to increase gastric intraluminal pressure, which induces satiety, and stimulate sympathetic afferent fibers, including those in the sympathetic trunk, splanchnic nerves, and greater curvature of the stomach, to augment the perception of satiety.

In one embodiment, a first line emergency response system for treatment of acute thrombotic and/or vasospastic vascular obstructions via the noninvasive application of low frequency vibration with at least one, and preferably a plurality of randomly administered vibratory waveform characteristics (herein after “Randomic Vibration”) is detailed. The disclosed apparatus and methods are based on the intuition that transcutaneously imparted low frequency randomic vibration can provide enhanced clot disruption and mixing of clot disruptive agents to acutely thrombosed vessels, due to the addition of mechanical chaos via non-regular, multi-vectored convection currents. In a preferred embodiment, the disclosed apparatus and methods preferably utilize randomic vibration as an adjunct to systemically administered drug therapy, most preferably intravenously administered thrombolytic drug therapy.

Method for controlling deployment of an airbag into a passenger compartment of a vehicle including detecting a position of an occupant whose forward-facing surface will be the surface which interacts with the airbag upon its deployment, determining a desired amount of gas within the airbag during inflation of the airbag based at least in part on the detected position of the occupant, and adjusting the amount of gas within the airbag during inflation of the airbag to provide the airbag with the desired amount of gas during its inflation. Adjustment of the amount of gas within the airbag may entail varying the amount of gas being directed into the airbag based on the morphology of the occupant (inflow control) and/or controlling the outflow of gas from the airbag based on the morphology of the occupant (outflow control).
