Alkaline and Heat Resistant Foam Composite and Floor Underlayment

InactiveUS20110197543A1Durability and useful life of be extendMaterial degradationConstruction materialFloorsFree radicals scavengerPolymer
The invention is directed to a composite foam material that is alkaline and heat resistance. The composite foam material comprises a foam layer that having a film layer attached thereto and in which at least one of the film or foam layers includes a carbon free radical scavenger agent that is dispersed therein. The carbon free radical scavengers neutralize free radicals that are generated in the polymeric material (e.g., film or foam layer) and help prevent the degradation of the foam composite material. In particular, foam composite materials in accordance with the present invention can be used in underlayment applications in which exposure to heat can degrade the underlayment. As a result, the durability and useful life of the composite sheet material can be extended. In some embodiments of the present invention provides a floor underlayment material that overcomes many of the problems discussed above.

Magnetically coupled drive for a sealed liquid level sender

The internal movement of one embodiment of a sealed fuel level sender employs two magnets disposed diametrically opposite each other about a pivot. The actuator that is operated by in-tank fuel level has two magnets disposed diametrically opposite each other about the axis with one pole of each magnet of the actuator confronting an opposite pole of a respective magnet of the movement to provide the magnetic coupling for causing the movement to follow the fuel level while minimizing, and preferably substantially eliminating, cross thrust on the pivot. Pole pieces may be associated with the magnets in a further embodiment. Still another embodiment employs magnets to only one side of the pivot, but with pole pieces that reduce cross thrust.

Carburetor fuel adjustment assembly

A carburetor fuel adjustment assembly includes a low speed needle valve and preferably a high speed needle valve threaded into respective receptacles of a carburetor body. Each receptacle defines an elongated cavity which intersects a fuel passage and has a valve orifice or seat. Each needle valve has a shank which threadably engages the respective receptacles and a tip that extends into the axially-aligned orifice or seat. The tip is axially movable relative to the orifice by rotation of the needle valve to control the size of the opening between the valve and orifice for fuel flow. A resilient body cooperates with the valve shank in laterally biasing the tip into a steadfast position relative to the orifice or seat. The lateral bias assures constant area for fuel flow through the orifice by resisting needle movement until a sufficient torque is intentionally applied to the needle valve.

Apparatus and method for limiting excessive engine speeds in a light-duty combustion engine

A controlled slow down apparatus and method for use in the event that a light-duty combustion engine has entered a state of excessive speeds or auto-ignition. The controlled slow down method is preferably initiated when the engine speed exceeds an activation speed for a predetermined number of engine revolutions. Once initiated, the controlled slow down method uses a combination of ignition timing and spark ratio manipulations in order to disrupt the auto-ignition conditions and slow down the engine in a controlled manner. Preferably, the controlled slow down method is only one part of an overall ignition control method, and can be incorporated within or utilized by one of a number of different ignition timing methods known in the art.
