383 results about "Signal leakage" patented technology

Signal leakage refers to the loss or egress of radio frequency (RF) signals from a cable system when they are not properly contained. This can result from a multitude of causes but is generally the result of shielding defects within the cable network.

System and method for transmission interference cancellation in full duplex transceiver

A full duplex transceiver has cancellation circuitry that includes an auxiliary receiver and an auxiliary transmitter. More specifically, an analog received signal that includes transmission signal leakage is provided to a low noise amplifier (LNA), which then provides its output to a main receiver and the auxiliary receiver. The auxiliary receiver includes a portion operable to convert the received signal from the analog domain to the digital domain. The auxiliary receiver additionally includes a cancellation processor that determines the transmission signal leakage and generates a signal based on the determined leakage. This signal generated by the auxiliary receiver is provided to the auxiliary transmitter, which converts the digital signal back to the analog domain and generates a cancellation signal. The analog cancellation signal is fed back and added to the received signal at the input of the LNA. As a result of the feedback system including an auxiliary receiver and an auxiliary transmitter, transmission signal leakage of many types may be canceled from a received signal.

A transceiver (10) includes an RF transmitter (12) and an RF receiver (14) coupled together through a duplexer (30). An RF transmit signal (20) passes through the duplexer (30) from the transmitter (12) toward an antenna (18), and an RF receive signal (44) passes through the duplexer (30) from the antenna (18) toward the receiver (14). The duplexer (30) may leak significant portions (56, 58) of the transmit signal (20) into the receive signal (44), and the duplexer (30) may significantly distort the transmit signal (20). Such distortion is compensated in the transmitter (12) through the use of a linear predistorter (68) that is adjusted in response to an RF feedback signal obtained from the antenna-side of the duplexer (30) . Transmit signal leakage is compensated in the receiver (14) by producing a processed-cancellation signal (106) that, when combined with the receive signal (44) cancels the transmit signal portions (56, 58) leaked into the receive signal (44). The processed-cancellation signal (106) is generated by applying a transformation function to a raw-cancellation signal (122) obtained from the antenna-side of the duplexer (30).

Method for detecting an oscillation in an on-frequency repeater

A method of detecting oscillation in an on-frequency repeater having an RF signal path coupled between an input antenna and an output antenna. In accordance with the present invention, a first RF signal power level within the RF signal path is detected during an un-muted period in which transmission of an output RF signal through the output antenna is enabled. A second RF signal power level within the RF signal path is detected during a mute period in which transmission of an RF signal through the output antenna is disabled. The first and second detected RF signal power levels are then compared, which provides an indication of signal leakage, and thus oscillation.

High power, high linearity and low insertion loss single pole double throw trasmitter/receiver switch

A high performance single-pole-double-throw (SPDT) Transmitter / Receiver (T / R) FET switch utilizes a plurality of multi-gate FETs in series to realize low insertion loss, low harmonic distortion and high power handling capabilities. The SPDT switch consists of an antenna port, a transmitter branch coupled to a transmitter port through a plurality of multi-gate FETs in series and a receiver branch coupled to a receiver port through a plurality of multi-gate FETs in series. When a high power signal passes from the transmitter port to the antenna port through the transmitter branch, the receiver branch is required to be shut off electrically to prevent the high power signal from leaking to receiver port. This leakage can degrade the isolation of the switch and cause harmonic distortion. Furthermore, the transmitter branch is required to provide a resistance as small as possible to reduce the power loss when it passes through the transmitter branch to the antenna port. In the receiver branch, two of the gate metals in the multi-gate FETs are fabricated with gate sizes several times larger than the others. Furthermore, a heavily doped cap layer is utilized between the gate fingers in a multi-gate FET to reduce the channel resistance of FET, thereby lowering the insertion loss.

System and method for radar calibration using antenna leakage

The system and method for radar calibration using antenna leakage is a simplified means of calibrating the channels in amplitude and phase using natural signal leakage between antennas. It utilizes as calibration signal a wideband sinusoidal Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) waveform with a modulation index and modulation frequency chosen to generate spectral components (or discrete signal frequencies) that fall within the receiver Doppler passband of the radar. The calibration signal is radiated out of the transmitting antenna and enters the radar receiver front-end through the transmit-to-receive antenna leakage which occurs naturally. This technique provides a low-complexity (simpler hardware realization) means for achieving a wideband calibration rapidly and is a practical alternative to the conventional calibration approach that relies on generating offset Doppler signals that are coupled into the radar receiver front-end through the use of couplers and cabling within the radar.

Cable location system using magnetic induction

A method of electronically isolating a conductor by sensing a current signal in the conductor, adjusting the current signal to yield an adjusted signal, and applying the adjusted signal to the conductor to oppose the current signal. Amplifying the signal, as well as phase-shifting the signal may adjust the current signal. The current signal may be sensed using magnetic induction, and the adjusted signal applied to the conductor using magnetic induction as well. The method is carried out using a clamping device that can further evaluate an environment of the conductor, by randomly changing a magnitude and phase of a test signal applied to the conductor, and examining a received signal in response to the changes. A tracking error in the adjusted signal can be handled by predicting a next required phase shift. Prediction coefficients can be calculated utilizing a least means square algorithm. The invention is particularly applicable to the location of obscured (e.g., buried) conductors, and can be incorporated into a cable locator system that applies a trace signal to the target cable to be located. When this trace signal bleeds onto adjacent cables, the clamping devices of the present invention can be used to electronically isolate those cables, i.e., reduce or eliminate unwanted currents arising from coupling with the trace signal. A conventional receiver can then be used to trace the path of the target cable without interference from the nearby cables.
