Phototherapeutic treatment methods and apparatus

A thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) phototherapy device based on high field electroluminescence (HFEL) or from organic light emitting devices (OLED), consistent with certain embodiments of the present invention has a battery and a charging circuit coupled to the battery, so that when connected to a source of current acts to charge the battery. A TFEL panel produces light when voltage from the power source (battery or AC source) is applied. A processor such as a microprocessor is used to control the application of voltage from the power source to the TFEL panel under control of a control program. A housing is used to contain the battery, the charging circuit and the processor and carry the TFEL panel on an outer surface thereof. In one embodiment, the housing incorporates a removable cover that uncovers a household electrical plug useful for supplying charging current to the charger. In use, a method of carrying out phototherapy, consistent with certain embodiments of the invention involves diagnosing a condition of an affected area of tissue that can be treated with phototherapy. A treatment protocol is determined including, for example, a treatment light intensity, a treatment time, a light modulation characteristic and a treatment light wavelength suitable for treating the condition. The affected area is then irradiated with light from the TFEL panel in accord with the treatment protocol.

Method and apparatus for using atrial discrimination algorithms to determine optimal pacing therapy and therapy timing

A system and method which employs atrial discrimination algorithms to distinguish between different atrial arrhythmias occurring in a patient for selecting an optimal pacing therapy corresponding to the type of arrhythmia identified. The invention may be implemented in a bradycardia pacemaker or other implantable cardiac device. In response to the detection of an atrial rate above the atrial tracking rate, discrimination criteria are applied to a detected atrial activity signal to distinguish between different types of supraventricular tachycardia, such as fast atrial flutter and other atrial flutter at a relatively slower rate, which may be occurring in the patient. The discrimination criteria may be, for example, rate-based or morphology based. The pacer is controlled to provide pacing therapy to a heart in a manner corresponding to the type of supraventricular tachycardia identified. For example, antitachycardia pacing may be provided to the heart in response to the detection of a relatively lower rate supraventricular tachycardia / other atrial flutter, whereas another pacing control, e.g., ventricular pacing, such as ventricular rate regulation or Rate Smoothing, may be applied if a more rapid rate supraventricular tachycardia / fast atrial flutter is identified. The output of an atrial discrimination algorithm may be tracked and the trend thereof used to improve therapy timing.

Non-thermal sterilization method for apple cloudy juice

The invention discloses a liquid food novel non-thermal sterilization method, in particular a non-thermal sterilization method of cloudy apple juice which belongs to the food processing technology field. The technical scheme includes adopting the aseptic operation to send the cloudy apple juice into a reaction vessel and adopting pulse type carbon dioxide with high density for the sterilization. The concrete operation step is: firstly, pumping carbon dioxide with high density into the reaction vessel; secondly, treating for a certain period at the set temperature and pressure condition; thirdly, releasing the carbon dioxide after the treatment to lower the pressure in the reaction vessel to the normal pressure; fourthly, operating the steps from the first to the third repeatedly for more than two times for the pulse type carbon dioxide with high density treatment. The killing effect of Escherichia coli in the cloudy apple juice which is processed in the invention can achieve the result of lowering at least five logarithms to satisfy the commercial aseptic requirement. Compared with the present non-thermal sterilization method, the invention has more obvious sterilization effect and can shorten the treatment time and save energy. The invention has the advantages of low processing temperature, energy saving and environmental protection and can maintain the good flavor of the cloudy apple juice.
