It is an object of the present invention to overcome the limitations of the prior art through the use of a wireless management interface (WMI). The WMI enables a user to securely manage the wireless transfer and synchronization of data between two or more wireless-equipped devices. The WMI is preferably implemented in a combination of hardware and software and operates by enabling a user, via a graphical display and user input capabilities, to establish a communication profile for any two or more devices. The communication profile includes one or more content parameters and one or more timing parameters. Methods and apparatus are provided for standardizing an interface infrastructure between sensor devices and client applications. The apparatus comprises a Sensor Application Integration Framework (SAIF) in the form of an application program interface (API) transport layer between sensor devices and client applications. Sensor services are registered in the SAIF API as interface definitions, and the client applications search the interface definitions corresponding to desired sensor services. An interactive handshake of messages and data between client applications and sensor services is implemented via the SAIF API by means of standard communication protocols such as XML. The SAIF API abstracts the details of the underlying sensor hardware from the client application, and can therefore function as a standard interface for sensor simulation, for sensor emulation, and for an active sensor device. The SAIF API hardware and associated software are generally compatible with commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology.

According to the method, the TEDS data are set by defining a communication message frame format; a protocol stack event processing process is started to monitor network structure change; network parameters are updated and stored in real time by adopting an off-chipdata memory; the NCAP can timely and accurately identify that the WTIM is connected and disconnected with the network by means of short network address fields of a message frame by adopting the timed handshake mechanism under the condition that normal data transmission is not affected; and plug and play is implemented.
