Optical network restoration

A method for protecting the flows of traffic against, and for restoring them from, a failure in a multifunctional, hybrid broadband access-and-transport network system includes the provisioning of at least two Virtual Flows (“VFs”) of traffic between each pair of ingress and egress (“I / E”) nodes in the system. The at least two VFs are provisioned such that each takes a different physical path from the other. The VFs taking the same physical path are then respectively grouped into two “Path Protection Groups” (“PPGs”). Each of the PPGs has a dedicated “Management Control Flow” (“MCF”) provisioned within it that is carried in the at least one VF contained therein. The detection of a fault in the traffic in an “active” PPG results in the generation of a protection switching signal (“PSS”) being generated and sent by the nodes detecting the fault along the MCF of the affected PPG to the relevant “protection switching entities” (“PSEs”), i.e., the affected I / E nodes, which responsively effect a protection switch of either the reception, or both the transmission and the reception, of the affected traffic from the affected “active” PPG to the associated “protect” PPG to thereby restore path and traffic continuity within the system. The method is independent of the transport layer and can thus be used to protect traffic in networks having transport systems other than SONET.

Systems and methods for generating reverse installation file for network restoration

Embodiments relate to systems and methods for generating a reverse installation file for network restoration. A set of managed machines, such as personal computers or servers, can be managed by a network management engine communicating with the machines via a secure channel. The network management engine can scan the managed network for kickstart, or provisioning answer files, that were used to install software to network nodes at a prior time. The network management engine can access the original kickstart file, and update that file to reflect a current state of the associated machine by inserting user-supplied updates, storage configuration updates, security credentials, and / or other data. Upon a crash or other malfunction of the associated machine, the network management platform can access the reverse kickstart file and generate a restoration of that node to a current state from the reverse kickstart data.

System and method for network recovery from multiple link failures

Methods and systems for fast and reliable network recovery from multiple link failures. In accordance with one example of the method, a master node receives a request from a transit node having a blocked port to open the blocked port for data forwarding, wherein the blocked port is associated with a restored link. The master node starts a health-check timer and transmits a health-check message on its primary port to determine that all failed links of the network are restored. Upon determining that the health-check message is received at its secondary port, the master node transmits a message to each transit node indicating that all failed links are restored. Upon determining that the health-check message is not received at its secondary port before the health-check timer lapsed, the master node transmits a message to the transit node to open the blocked port associated with the restored link for data forwarding.

Reverse notification tree for data networks

Recovery time upon the failure of a link or switching system in an asynchronous data network can be minimized if downstream data switches provide upstream messages indicating to upstream switching system that the downstream traffic arrived in tact and was properly handled. Upon this loss or failure of the upstream status message to an upstream switching system, an upstream switching system can reroute data traffic around a failed link or failed switch with a minimal amount of lost data. The upstream status message is conveyed from a downstream switching system to an upstream switching system via a reverse notification tree data pathway.

A method for realizing network recovery in loop network

ActiveCN101262401AGuaranteed to workGuaranteed Availability RequirementsData switching networksAlarm messageTelecommunications link
The invention discloses a method for recovering networks in a ring network. Ethernet switch equipment enters a communication status after an initial configuration and precise time synchronization based on an IEEE 1588 protocol. Each equipment according to the configuration of the network sends out time-sharing equipment statement messages and link circuit checking messages. The link circuit checking messages are sent by a multicast address in two ways; if a port of equipment receives no link checking messages of a connected port after the time out, then a network trouble can be determined and link circuit alarm messages are sent by the multicast address in two ways for alarming. The rest equipments in the ring network after receiving the link circuit alarm message, then empty an FDB list and utilize a backup link circuit to restart path learning. By adopting the method of the invention, any communication link circuit failure in the ring network can be quickly detected and correspondingly processed, thereby meeting the availability requirements of Ethernet communication by the industrial automatic field.

System and method for high QoS digital content-based services

A digital content mediator (“DCM”) communicates with a network resource controller / manager (NRM) to allocate the appropriate network resources for a digital content transfer. A DCM client provides a signal to the DCM requesting the desired digital content transaction. The DCM checks a content information database to see if the content transfer is allowed. If the transfer is allowed, the DCM then extracts content transfer information from the content information database that describes network resource characteristics for transfer of that content. The DCM then formulates a request to the Network Resorce Manager containing the source and destination endpoint information in addition to the network resource characteristics of the content to be transferred. The Network Resource Manager (NRM) then makes the appropriate resource allocations. If the request succeeds, the DCM “approves” the request and signals to the client that the transfer process can continue. At the end of the transfer process, after the DCM has verified that the destination user has received the desired digital content, the DCM provides a “signal” to the NRM requesting that the reserved network resources be de-allocated.
