An apparatus (1) for capturing
carbon dioxide (CO2) from a gas
stream (2) containing
carbon dioxide, comprising: an adsorption device (3) having a container (4) for containing an adsorbent (5) made of
solid adsorbent particles (5a) for binding
carbon dioxide (CO2) onto the adsorbent (5); a regeneration device (8) for separating bound carbon dioxide (CO2) from the adsorbent (5), the regeneration device (8) having an adsorbent inlet (9) to which the adsorbent outlet (7) is connected and an adsorbent outlet (10) to which the adsorbent inlet (6) is connected, a
fixed bed regenerator (11) of the regeneration device (8), the invention relates to an adsorbent device (1) having a reservoir (12) for an adsorbent (5) and a fluid outlet (14) for withdrawing at least carbon dioxide (CO2) from the reservoir (12), a feed valve (15) being arranged in an adsorbent feed opening (9) and a
discharge valve (16) being arranged in an adsorbent
discharge opening (10), the feed and
discharge valves (15, 16) are configured to selectively switch in a substantially gas-tight manner between an open state allowing the
sorbent (5) to enter the reservoir (12) through the
sorbent feed port (9) and exit the reservoir (12) through the
sorbent discharge port (10), respectively, and a
closed state allowing the sorbent (5) to enter the reservoir (12) through the sorbent discharge port (10), respectively. The
closed state prevents the adsorbent (5) from entering the reservoir (12) through the adsorbent feed port (9) and flowing out of the reservoir (12) through the adsorbent discharge port (10); and a vacuum
generating unit (17) for generating a vacuum inside the reservoir (12) in the
closed state of the feed valve (15) and the discharge valve (16), respectively.
