In general, the invention is directed to a technique for selection of parameter configurations for a neurostimulator using genetic algorithms. The technique may be employed by a programming device to allow a clinician to select parameter configurations, and then program an implantable neurostimulator to deliver therapy using the selected parameter configurations. In operation, the programming device executes an electrode configuration search algorithm to guide the clinician in the selection of electrode configurations. The search algorithm relies on a genetic algorithms to identify potential optimum electrode configurations within an electrode set. The genetic algorithms provide guidance in the electrode configuration selections process, interactively guiding the clinician by suggesting the configurations that are most likely to be efficacious given the results of tests already performed during an evaluation session.

A handoff method in a wireless communication network enables radio configuration selection information to be exchanged between target and source base stations (BSs) involved in the handoff. For example, a source BS may determine that a given mobile station's Forward Supplemental Channel (F-SCH) should be handed off to a target BS in the mobile station's active set and thus send a handoff request to that target BS. In turn, the target BS selects a radio configuration and returns selection information to the source BS as part of its response. For example, the target BS may select a radio configuration that makes the best use of its available resources. Further, the source BS can include compatibility information in the request, such as a list of radio configurations compatible with the mobile station. In an exemplary cdma2000 embodiment, the source and target BSs use A3 / A7 signaling to exchange radio configuration information.

Pacing output configuration selection for cardiac resynchronization therapy patients

Cardiac therapy systems include multiple electrodes respectively positionable at multiple left ventricular electrode sites. A pulse generator is coupled to the electrodes and configured to deliver a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). A processor is configured to measure, for each left ventricular electrode site, a timing interval between first and second cardiac signal features associated with left ventricular depolarization. The timing interval is associated with a degree of responsiveness of each left ventricular electrode site to CRT. The processor is configured to determine a pacing output configuration that provides improved patient responsiveness to CRT based on the timing interval measurements and to select at least one left ventricular electrode site from the plurality of left ventricular electrode sites based on the timing interval measurements. The processor may be configured to monitor for a change in hemodynamic status of the patient based on a change in the timing interval.

Systems and methods for selecting reconfigurable antennas in MIMO systems

A method allows reconfigurable multi-element antennas to select the antenna configuration in MIMO, SIMO and MISO communication system. This selection scheme uses spatial correlation, channel reciprocal condition number, delay spread and average Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) information to select the antenna radiation pattern at the receiver. Using this approach, it is possible to achieve capacity gains in a multi-element reconfigurable antenna system without modifying the data frame of a conventional wireless communication system. The capacity gain achievable with this configuration selection approach is calculated through numerical simulations using reconfigurable circular patch antennas at the receiver of a MIMO system that employs minimum mean square error receivers for channel estimation. Channel capacity and Bit Error Rate (BER) results show the improvement offered relative to a conventional antenna selection technique for reconfigurable MIMO systems.
