Diagnosing Fetal Chromosomal Aneuploidy Using Genomic Sequencing With Enrichment

Embodiments of this invention provide methods, systems, and apparatus for determining whether a fetal chromosomal aneuploidy exists from a biological sample obtained from a pregnant female. Nucleic acid molecules of the biological sample are sequenced, such that a fraction of the genome is sequenced. Respective amounts of a clinically-relevant chromosome and of background chromosomes are determined from results of the sequencing. The determination of the relative amounts may count sequences of only certain length. A parameter derived from these amounts (e.g. a ratio) is compared to one or more cutoff values, thereby determining a classification of whether a fetal chromosomal aneuploidy exists. Prior to sequencing, the biological sample may be enriched for DNA fragments of a particular sizes.

Non-invasive determination of fetal inheritance of parental haplotypes at the genome-wide scale

The present invention provides a method, device and a computer program for haplotyping single cells, such that a sample taken from a pregnant female, without directly sampling the fetus, provides the ability to non-invasively determine the fetal genome. The method can be performed by determining the parental and inherited haplotypes, or can be performed merely on the basis of the mother's genetic information, obtained preferably in a blood or serum sample. The novel device allows for sequence analysis of single chromosomes from a single cell, preferably by partitioning single chromosomes from a metaphase cell into long, thin channels where a sequence analysis can be performed.

Drospirenone for hormone replacement therapy

Drospirenone for Hormone Replacement Therapy A pharmaceutical composition comprising as a first active ingredient an estrogen, such as estradiol or estradiol valerate, in sufficient amounts to treat disorders and symptoms associated with deficient endogenous levels of estrogen in women, and as a second active ingredient 6beta,7beta; 15beta; 16beta-dimethylene-3-oxo-17alpha-preg-4-ene-21,17-carbolactone (drospirenone, DRSP) in sufficient amounts to protect the endometrium from the adverse effects of estrogen is useful for, amongst others, treating peri-menopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal women. This composition may be used for hormone replacement therapy and may be administered as a multi-phased pharmaceutical preparation. This combination therapy may comprise continuous, sequential or interrupted administration, or combinations thereof, of DRSP and estrogen, each optionally in micronized form.

The present invention relates to a synthetic process for the preparation of a novel class of androgen receptor targeting agents (ARTA) which demonstrate androgenic and anabolic activity of a nonsteroidal ligand for the androgen receptor. The agents define a new subclass of compounds which are selective androgen receptor modulators (SARM) which are useful for a) male contraception; b) treatment of a variety of hormone-related conditions, for example conditions associated with Androgen Decline in Aging Male (ADAM), such as fatigue, depression, decreased libido, sexual dysfunction, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism, osteoporosis, hair loss, anemia, obesity, sarcopenia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, benign prostate hyperplasia, alterations in mood and cognition and prostate cancer; c) treatment of conditions associated with Androgen Decline in Female (ADIF), such as sexual dysfunction, decreased sexual libido, hypogonadism, sarcopenia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, alterations in cognition and mood, depression, anemia, hair loss, obesity, endometriosis, breast cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer; d) treatment and / or prevention of chronic muscular wasting; e) decreasing the incidence of, halting or causing a regression of prostate cancer; f) oral androgen relacement and / or other clinical therpauetic and / or diagnostic areas. The process of the present invention is suitable for large-scale preparation, since all of the steps give rise to highly pure compounds, thus avoiding complicated purification procedures which ultimately lower the yield. Thus the present invention provides methods for the synthesis of non-steroidal agonist compounds, that can be used for industrial large-scale synthesis, and that provide highly pure products in high yield.

Potency package

A device and method for male impotence correction and female anorgasmy. An electronic stimulator with at least one pulse generator is implanted inside the body. At least one electrode is installed in the epidural space in the sacrum section of the spinal column and a conductor running under the user's skin electrically connects the electrode to the pulse generator. The stimulator is programmable and may be controlled from outside the body. Upon command initiated by the user or the user's lover the stimulator produces very short low-voltage electrical pulses in the sacrum section that are picked up by the nerves leading to the sex organs of the user, which stimulates arousal in the user's reproductive systems. The pulses are similar to the pulses generated by heart pacemakers. In other preferred embodiments the stimulator includes one or two drug chambers and a tube extending from each chamber to a nerve for producing stimulation of a sex organ. The present invention works on both males and females. In a preferred embodiment, the programmable electronic stimulator is implanted under the skin in the patient's back. Stimulation of the nerves coming out from the parasympathetic part of the spinal cord causes dilatation of the penile arteries in the male and in the clitoris arteries of the female, which results in an erection in the male and pre-orgasmic sensation in the female. In female, the stimulation of the sacral part of the spinal cord increases sexual desire and escalation to the level of orgasm. A preferred embodiment provides for emission stimulation. Emission is stimulated by electrical excitation of the sacral part of the spinal cord by increasing the voltage of the previous impulses. The device may be preprogrammed to set in motion the emission and ejaculation process at a predetermined time interval after the start of the erection process.
