A prosthetic repair fabric and method for repairing an inguinal hernia in the inguinal canal. The prosthesis including a layer of mesh fabric that is susceptible to the formations of adhesions with sensitive tissue and organs, and a barrier layer that inhibits the formation of adhesions with sensitive tissue and organs. The mesh fabric including a medial section and a lateral section that are configured to be positioned adjacent the medial corner and the lateral end of the inguinal canal, respectively, when the prosthesis is placed in the inguinal canal to repair the defect. The barrier layer is positioned on the mesh fabric to inhibit the formation of adhesions between the spermatic cord and the mesh fabric. At least a portion of the lateral section of the mesh fabric is free of the barrier layer on both of its sides to promote enhanced tissue ingrowth therein. The barrier layer may include at least one flap that is to be folded through the mesh fabric to isolate the spermatic cord from internal edges of the fabric when the spermatic cord is routed through the prothesis.

A portable exercise device includes a main tube having an adjustable length. The main tube includes a central tube and an outboard tube connected to opposite ends of the central tube. First and second door jamb gripping devices adapted to engage a door stop of a door jamb are secured to respective outermost ends of the outboard tubes. A handle is secured to each outboard tube and a pulley is mounted within a hollow interior of each outboard tube. A first resistance band has a first end engaged to a third handle, a second end engaged to a fourth handle, and a medial part positioned in a hollow interior of the main tube that engages the first and second pulleys.

A surgical method for exposure of the sacroiliac joint using a posterior approach begins with a longitudinal incision over the posterior iliac crest, centered on the posterior iliac spine. Holes which will be used to repair the iliac osteotomy are made obliquely from the medial to lateral to cross the plane of exposure. A cut through the bone is made lateral to the drill holes and centered over the sacroiliac complex with the aid of fluoroscope or radiograph imaging. The medial part of the iliac crest is freed from the back of the sacrum and displaced medially for the sacroiliac joint complex to be inspected, debrided, or curettaged for fusion. The closure and subsequent healing are facilitated by the predrilled oblique holes. These are used to re-attach the medial iliac bone to the remaining lateral ilium.

A surgical draping method for a patient on an operating table and an adjacent movable medical tool may include positioning a patient drape having a surgical access opening in a medial portion thereof over the patient on the operating table so that the surgical access opening exposes a surgical site on the patient. A method of facilitating the cooling of a foodstuff is disclosed. The foodstuff is placed in a container so that it surrounds a ventilation shaft in a central part of the container. An ankle support has a tubular sock-like elastic sheath which, in use, is slipped over the foot and ankle of a wearer and extends upwardly over the lower leg, the sheath thereby having lateral and medial sides and a posterior end for receiving the heel of a wearer. A protective knee covering which provides motion guidance and orthotic support for a knee. The protective knee covering is made from a layer of rigid material, such as a plastic or a composite material. A central portion of the protective knee covering covers the knee cap portion of the knee. The central portion is curved in a top to bottom direction, but is flat or substantially flat in a medial side to lateral side direction to provide a stable base for kneeling. A medial side portion and a lateral side portion are attached to the central portion at angles. The lateral side portion is attached at a sharper angle than the medial side portion. Both of these portions cover the sides of the knee. The lateral side portion acts as an orthotic guide during bending of the knee to keep the thigh over the knee.

The present invention pertains to a structure for supporting portions in two sites in the axial direction of a cable (38) of an electrical component, the portions between supported between an energy-absorbing member (35) near an inner column (9a) and a cable supporting bracket (52) near an outer column (10a), the cable (38) being capable of minimizing resistance against frontward displacement a steering wheel accompanying a secondary impact. The energy-absorbing member (35) has a supporting plate part (46) in which a portion thereof is displaced downward during a secondary impact. A portion of a medial part between the portions in two sites in the axial direction of the cable (38) is supported by the supporting plate part (46). The medial part of the cable (38) bends under downward displacement accompanying deformation of the supporting plate part (46) during a secondary impact. Consequently, axial stiffening of the cable (38) is suppressed during a secondary impact.

A protective knee covering which provides motion guidance and orthotic support for a knee. The protective knee covering is made from a layer of rigid material, such as a plastic or a composite material. A central portion of the protective knee covering covers the knee cap portion of the knee. The central portion is curved in a top to bottom direction, but is flat or substantially flat in a medial side to lateral side direction to provide a stable base for kneeling. A medial side portion and a lateral side portion are attached to the central portion at angles. The lateral side portion is attached at a sharper angle than the medial side portion. A toe protector for protecting the toe and sores or bunions on the foot of a patient from irritation, abrasion, and impact, so as to promote healing is disclosed. The toe protector comprises a generally tubular body sized to substantially cover a toe of the user. The device is preferably fabricated from a soft, FDA approved silicon material, in a double-walled tubular configuration wherein inner and outer layers form an interstitial space. The interstitial space is filled with substance, such as a liquid or gel. A flap extends along the inside portion of the foot and includes a recessed portion sized and positioned for covering relation with bunions on the metatarsophalangeal joint or other sores. According to another aspect, the present invention provides a foot protector to be worn on the foot of a patient. The foot protector preferably incorporates one or more water-filled toe protectors as generally described above. Each of the embodiments may define a plurality of ventilation holes formed by welding of inner and outer portions.

An article of footwear is configured so that a child or other wearer may easily insert his or her foot into the article of footwear without tying laces while maintaining the look of a laced article of footwear. A lateral portion of the eyelet region partially surrounding the vamp is removably attached to the upper, such as with a hook-and-loop system, to allow the width of the vamp to be manipulated. The present invention relates to an ophthalmic device designed to ease the use of eye drop dispensers. It is one ophthalmic device but can be thought of as consisting of two parts: the nose bridge (11), which rests on the user's nose and the body (19), which connects to the eye drop dispenser. The body is flat and comes off of the nose bridge at an angle, allowing the eye drop dispenser to point toward the eye. The body attaches to the eye drop dispenser by Velcro (18), adhesive tape, strap, or any other measure to adhere two things together. This allows the ophthalmic device to work with any type of eye drop dispenser. Together, the nose bridge and the body, allow the user to securely and easily administer an eye drop to the medial part of their eye.
