Spiking neuron network sensory processing apparatus and methods

Apparatus and methods for detecting salient features. In one implementation, an image processing apparatus utilizes latency coding and a spiking neuron network to encode image brightness into spike latency. The spike latency is compared to a saliency window in order to detect early responding neurons. Salient features of the image are associated with the early responding neurons. A dedicated inhibitory neuron receives salient feature indication and provides inhibitory signal to the remaining neurons within the network. The inhibition signal reduces probability of responses by the remaining neurons thereby facilitating salient feature detection within the image by the network. Salient feature detection can be used for example for image compression, background removal and content distribution.

Input/output control apparatus

Image data scanned by way of a scanner controller is transferred from a memory controller to a memory by way of a G bus. A CPU reduces the image data stored in the memory by thinning processing or the like, and displays the image data on an operation panel by way of a B bus and interface. In this manner, an image can be input using the first bus while data transferred by way of the first bus is output by way of the second bus. This enables processing using image data which is being input, such as processing of immediately displaying an input image.

PACS Optimization Techniques

Some embodiments provide a method and system for efficiently transferring medical images. Some embodiments receive a medical image in a first platform dependent format of a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). The first platform dependent format is one that is accessible by a first format compliant device that includes a library that specifies how to decode the first format. Some embodiments transform the medical image from the first format to a second format. The second format includes decoded content of the first format that is viewable on a first format non-compliant device. The transformed image is then passed to the device for viewing. Additionally, some embodiments efficiently transfer medical images by identifying image settings for one or more devices and by passing requested images that are optimized by resizing the images according to the image settings of the requesting device.

Image sensing system and method of controlling operation of same

When a subject is imaged for the purpose of deciding the angle of view, the full image that is capable of being sensed by a CCD is displayed on an LCD. The user designates the position of a cropping area in the image being displayed. Only image data representing the image within the border of the designated area is recorded on a memory card. Since the amount of image data to be recorded on the memory card is thus reduced, image data representing images of a greater number of frames can be recorded on the memory card.

System and Method for Real-Time Super-Resolution

A method and system are presented for real time Super-Resolution image reconstruction. According to this technique, data indicative of a video frame sequence compressed by motion compensated compression technique is processed, and representations of one or more video objects (VOs) appearing in one or more frames of said video frame sequence are obtained. At least one of these representations is utilized as a reference representation and motion vectors, associating said representations with said at least one reference representation, are obtained from said data indicative of the video frame sequence. The representations and the motion vectors are processed, and pixel displacement maps are generated, each associating at least some pixels of one of the representations with locations on said at least one reference representation. The reference representation is re-sampled according to the sub-pixel accuracy of the displacement maps, and a re-sampled reference representation is obtained. Pixels of said representations are registered against the re-sampled reference representation according to the displacement maps, thereby providing super-resolved image of the reference representation of said one or more VOs.

Systems and methods for stitching overlapping swaths

System and methods for using a fluid ejection system to distribute fluid drop density of a region between at least two overlapping swaths having pixels on a receiving medium. Using the method, overlapping swaths are stitched together by distributing a fluid ejection pattern between the overlapping swaths within the overlapped region. Because small drops of fluid can be distributed within a single region, the fluid ejection pattern can be controlled and intermediate density regions can be created by distributing the fluid of drops within a region between two fluid ejector heads or between two swaths of the same fluid ejector head. The distribution can be linear or non-linear. Furthermore, overlapping swaths are stitched together by randomly varying a stitch location within the overlapped region. In this case, a stitch location is randomly varied in the slow scan direction.

Patterned wafer inspection method and apparatus therefor

A defect inspection apparatus is provided which allows a technology for inspecting a pattern on a wafer by using an electron beam to implement a high-resolution and higher-speed inspection. A semiconductor wafer is irradiated with an electron beam and electrons reflected in the vicinity of the wafer are detected. The presence or absence of a defect and the location thereof are measured by forming an image from only a component which changes with a periodicity larger than a size of a circuit pattern or the repetition periodicity thereof by using lenses and comparing an image signal with a preset value. Since only the component which changes with a periodicity larger than the size of the circuit pattern with a surface potential distortion and the repetition periodicity thereof is observed with a resolution lower than required to observe the pattern itself instead of detecting a defect through a comparison between extremely small pattern images, an inspection throughput can be increased exponentially compared with that of a conventional SEM inspection.
