In an embodiment, a method is disclosed that includes querying multiple network devices for performance metrics corresponding to video data packets sent from a video server. The network devices may include multicast branching points between the video server and the destination. This invention describes a novel tunable optical add/drop filter for the all-optical wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) network applications. This filter can add or drop part of the high transmission capacity signals of a WDM link. It can be used to decentralized access point in the access network or as small core network node to realizing branching points in the network topology. It works in both wavelength and space domains. It has the advantages of: 1) High throughput and low voltage operation; 2) Wide tuning range and therefore, high channel capacity; 3) High isolation and high directivity between input and output ports; 4) Compact device packaging is possible as compares to the conventional grating and mechanical switching type of add/drop filter; 5) Multiple ports add/drop tunable filters can be realized with this invention to interconnect multiple WDM networks. This novel add/drop filter can be used in various WDM topologies. The apparatus and method processes a first fundus image and a second fundus image acquired with a fundus imaging device. The fundus information processing apparatus and method extracts blood vessel shapes from the first and second fundus images, and identifies branching points of the blood vessel of the blood vessel shape through image processing. Further, a plurality of line segments are obtained by interconnecting two predetermined branching points and thereafter identification of two common line segments of the first and second fundus images. The apparatus and method determines relative positional relationship between the branching points constituting at least two of the line segments and thereafter performs comparison operation followed by an alignment operation. By the alignment a panoramic image of the plurality of fundus images is produced along with blood vessel information of the fundus.

The method comprises the steps of detecting a large amount of seed points which are located on central lines of blood vessels automatically based on the fact that blood vessels in the image is subjected to multi-scale ridge strengthening and calculating original tracking directions of the blood vessels; acquiring a candidate central line assembly through a method in which ridge points are tracked and extracted on the central lines of the blood vessels and rejecting false blood vessel central lines; and finally, analyzing discrete points on the central lines, and determining which point is a branching point of a blood vessel and calculating blood vessel diameter length corresponding to a ridge point on a central line of the blood vessel. The algorithm is high in operating speed, a topological structure of blood vessels can be extracted accurately without manual intervention, and the method can be used in a clinical diagnosis and treatment process of cardiovascular diseases.

A method for classifying a plant leaf by utilizing the feature points of venation has been developed. A sample image of the venation can be extracted by utilizing a Curvature Scale Space (CSS) Corner Detection Algorithm. The sample image is treated to thicken the venation and increase the contrast through the retrieval unit prior to applying the Canny Edge Detection technology. The feature point, Branching Point and End Point is detected at each point where the calculated curvature angle is a local maximum. The distribution of the feature points of the extracted venation is calculated by applying a Parzen Window non-parametric estimation method.
