Management of the bandwidth capacity of tunnels through a network may be automated such that the network is adaptive to the stochastic nature of incoming traffic. An edge node in the network includes four main elements. Three of the elements, namely tunnel signaling, admission control and path selection, are derived from known technologies, generalized from their particular technologies and enhanced. With the addition of a fourth element, called capacity management, the four elements cooperate to accommodate the capacity needs of the traffic incoming to the network at the edge node. This accommodation is performed by estimating the traffic demand and dynamically adapting tunnels to the traffic demand.

Language model adaptation via network of similar users

A language recognition system, method and program product for recognizing language based input from computer users on a network of connected computers. Each computer includes at least one user based language model trained for a corresponding user for automatic speech recognition, handwriting recognition, machine translation, gesture recognition or other similar actions that require interpretation of user activities. Network computer users are clustered into classes of similar users according to user similarities such as, nationality, profession, sex, age, etc. User characteristics are collected by sensors and from databases and, then, distributed over the network during user activities. Language models with similarities among similar users on the network are identified. The language models include a language model domain, with similar language models being clustered according to their domains. Language models identified as similar are modified in response to user production activities. After modification of one language model, other identified similar language models are compared and adapted. Also, user data, including information about user activities and language model data, is transmitted over the network to other similar users. Language models are adapted only in response to similar user activities, when these activities are recorded and transmitted over the network. Language models are given a global context based on similar users that are connected together over the network.

The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for adapting a communications network of a plurality of wireless access nodes, such as base stations to a changing environment. The method comprises determining a current location of at least a first user in the communications network, identifying a need for change in at least one parameter associated with a position of a first base station of the plurality of base stations based on the current location of the first user, and implementing a first response in the communications network in response to the need for change for the first base station. In this way, a self-deploying wireless access network may autonomously reposition base stations in a changing environment of user distributions across a coverage area and / or user demand by users of wireless communication devices, such as mobile units. Using indirect communication between the base stations capable of operating with different standards or protocols, a distributed algorithm may adapt the network to the changing environment. Such adaptation of the network in a distributed manner may control overall network costs of providing wireless services to mobile users.
