35 results about "Stretch factor" patented technology

In mathematics, the stretch factor of an embedding measures the factor by which the embedding distorts distances. Suppose that one metric space S is embedded into another metric space T by a metric map, a continuous one-to-one function f that preserves or reduces the distance between every pair of points. Then the embedding gives rise to two different notions of distance between pairs of points in S. Any pair of points (x,y) in S has both an intrinsic distance, the distance from x to y in S, and a smaller extrinsic distance, the distance from f(x) to f(y) in T. The stretch factor of the pair is the ratio between these two distances, d(x,y)/d(f(x),f(y)).

Method and apparatus for true relative amplitude correction of seismic data for normal moveout stretch effects

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for arriving at true relative amplitude destretched seismic traces from stretched seismic traces. The method compensates for offset varying reflection interference effects due to normal moveout. Stretch factors β and also input spectra are determined for NMOR stretched seismic traces. Estimates are then made of stretched wavelet spectra from the input spectra. A destretched wavelet spectra is then obtained. Shaping correction factors are determined by taking the ratio of the destretched wavelet spectra to the stretched wavelet spectra and are applied to the input spectra of the stretched traces to arrive at a destretched trace spectra. True relative amplitude scaling factors are computed by taking the ratio of a true relative amplitude property of the destretched wavelet spectra to a corresponding true relative amplitude property of the stretched wavelet spectra. Finally, the true relative amplitude scaling factors are applied to the destretched trace spectra to arrive at true relative amplitude destretched seismic traces.

High-speed optical sampling by temporal stretching using four-wave mixing

Systems and methods are provided for ultrafast optical waveform sampling based on temporal stretching of an input signal waveform. Temporal stretching is performed using a time lens based on four-wave mixing in a nonlinear medium. The signal is passed through an input dispersive element. The dispersed signal is sent into the time lens, which comprises a chirped pump pulse and a nonlinear medium. The chirped pump pulse is combined with the signal. The four-wave mixing process occurs in the nonlinear device or medium, which results in the generation of a signal at a new optical frequency (idler). The idler is spectrally separated from the signal and pump pulse using a bandpass filter and sent into an output dispersive element. The output dis persive element is longer than the input dispersive element and the temporal stretching factor is given by the ratio between the dispersions of these two elements.

Method for image background detection and removal

A method for photocopying an original color document reduces the amount of color in the resulting photocopy. This is accomplished by scanning bands of the original document to create image bands, detecting a background color in one or more margins of the document that are within the scanned image bands, determining a stretch factor based on the color in the margins, and then scaling pixel values of the pixels by the stretch factor. The stretch factor may be established in one space, e.g., luminance space, and the scaling may be performed in another space, e.g., RGB, though this is not an absolute requirement. A device capable of performing the foregoing thereby reduces the amount of color ink or color toner consumed when the color background of an original document is not needed in the photocopy.

Dual cycle construction method suitable for high code rate quasi cyclic-low density parity check (QC-LDPC) code

According to a quasi-cyclic low density parity check code basis matrix construction method, node distribution acquired through optimization of a density evolution algorithm is used, then a stretch factor Z is set, the circle length of the LDPC code check matrix and external message scale of the circle are jointed optimized, finally, a QC-LDPC code basis matrix with excellent performances is generated through extension. Each element in the basis matrix is corresponding to one Z*Z dimensional all-zero matrix, a unit matrix or a cyclic shift matrix of the unit matrix. But in construction of high code rate QC-LDPC code, the contradiction of limitation of matrix row number and maximum line number usually occurs, namely, the maximum line number is greater than the row number. To solve the problem, the invention provides construction of the basis matrix through a method increasing line number through superposition of a plurality of cyclic shift matrixes, namely, multiple cyclic shift matrixes are embedded in a single block matrix. The "superposition" operation is binary addition, the constructed basis matrix not only guarantees the cycle performance of the QC-LDPC code, but also meets the requirement of optimization of codon performance through increase of minimum code distance.
