Expanded information capacity for existing communication transmission systems

A system for transmitting digital programming includes a program source providing digital information, circuitry for modulating the digital information onto a visual carrier modulated with analog television programming, and a visual transmitter coupled to the modulating circuitry. Using a phase modulation method, the system phase modulates the digital information onto a visual carrier, reduces the baseband frequencies of the phase modulated visual carrier, and amplitude modulates the phase-modulated video carrier onto a video signal. The amplified and encoded video signal are combined with an amplified sound signal and transmitted. Using an additive method, the system modulates the sidebands of the video carrier with the digital information and amplitude modulates the video signal onto the video carrier. The data-modulated sidebands are phase-shifted such that they will be in quadrature with the amplitude-modulated video signal. The system combines the amplitude-modulated video carrier and the data-modulated quadrature sidebands. With a blended multiplicative/additive method, the system provides phase modulation and quadrature sideband addition to provide an optimized result. Process, systems, circuits and devices for abating or otherwise correcting effects of the information on the analog television signal are also disclosed.

Storage area network file system

A shared storage distributed file system is presented that provides applications with transparent access to a storage area network (SAN) attached storage device. This is accomplished by providing clients read access to the devices over the SAN and by requiring most write activity to be serialized through a network attached storage (NAS) server. Both the clients and the NAS server are connected to the SAN-attached device over the SAN. Direct read access to the SAN attached device is provided through a local file system on the client. Write access is provided through a remote file system on the client that utilizes the NAS server. A supplemental read path is provided through the NAS server for those circumstances where the local file system is unable to provide valid data reads.
Consistency is maintained by comparing modification times in the local and remote file systems. Since writes occur over the remote file systems, the consistency mechanism is capable of flushing data caches in the remote file system, and invalidating metadata and real-data caches in the local file system. It is possible to utilize unmodified local and remote file systems in the present invention, by layering over the local and remote file systems a new file system. This new file system need only be installed at each client, allowing the NAS server file systems to operate unmodified. Alternatively, the new file system can be combined with the local file system.

Application management

This invention relates to management of a computer application. In particular it relates to the optimization of an application which is written for more than one platform. There is disclosed apparatus, program code and a method for resolving a program code module (such as a DLL) in a computer platform, said method comprising: loading a module into memory; locating specified operation code within the module; selecting a DLL patch for the operation code; and modifying the operation code with the patch according to DLL methods. The operating system uses the dynamic module loader to patch operational code into an application to optimise the application for that operating system and platform. It reduces the need to create a different application for each platform and operating system combination. The operation code is pointed to by a module header fix up location pointer. The above solution causes the code to be patched at load time and advantageously by the operating system itself. All the application program has to do is to ensure that the appropriate DLL exporting the right instruction sequence is installed. Additional benefits are that the code remains non-writable and cannot be corrupted, there is no call-return overhead. Furthermore there is faster execution, in the single processor example, the only overhead is one nop instruction.

Online synchronized music CD and memory stick or chips

A synchronized music delivery system utilizes either a portable memory device including compact discs (CDs), digital video discs (DVDs) and memory sticks, or on-line or wirelessly delivered content in combination with a lighted keyboard and a sound reproducing system. A synchronized musical work, including music, lyrics and specialized coding, is recorded onto the portable memory device or is stored on a server for on-line or wireless delivery, in one embodiment by downloading the information from the Internet to the portable memory device; and in another embodiment in a stand-alone version involving pre-recording the portable memory device. The stored synchronized music in one embodiment is provided with the actual song recording, sing-along words and including letters of the alphabet to be struck on a standard alpha-numeric computer keyboard, indicia, scrollable score coding incorporating notes on a musical score and fingering or a lighted key drive, all information being synchronized with the work. In one embodiment the synchronized memory device is inserted into a suitable slot in an electronic music synthesizer having a lighted keyboard and song reproduction equipment such that a virtually unlimited number of musical works can be readily delivered in one embodiment to a CD ROM / DVD burner over the Internet, whereby not only can a karaoke-like audio-visual experience be provided, but also a synchronized lighted keyboard is provided to enable an individual not only to sing along, but to play along with the work.

Method and system for realizing data sharing between power distribution main station system and power distribution GIS (Geographic Information System)

The invention discloses a method for realizing data sharing between a power distribution main station system and a power distribution GIS (Geographic Information System). The method comprises the following steps of: establishing a pattern model: establishing a corresponding model scanning file and a figure scanning file for power equipment belonging to a power distribution grid in the GIS; exporting files: exporting the model scanning file and the figure scanning file into a model information file in the format of xml and a pattern information file in the format of SVG (Video Graphics Array) which follows the IEC 61970/IEC 6196I standard; transmitting files: transmitting the exported model information file and the pattern information file from the GIS to the main station system; and converting files: after the main station system receives the model information file and the pattern information file, converting the files into a model file and a pattern file of private formats of the main station system for saving respectively. The invention further discloses a system for realizing data sharing between a power distribution main station system and a power distribution GIS. By adopting the method and the system, system combination and data sharing inside a power grid information system can be realized effectively, and the investment and maintenance costs are lowered greatly.
