Surface groove system for building sheets

The present invention involves building sheets with a plurality of grooves indented into a surface of the building sheet to provide a guide for cutting the building sheet along the grooves. Preferably, the grooves are arranged in a regularly repeating pattern and are spaced apart by a standard unit of measurement in order for a cutter to accurately size the building sheet to a precise dimension. A simple scoring knife is preferably used to score the sheet along the grooves, without the need for a straight edge, and the sheet is broken by simply bending the sheet of along the score mark. The grooves are preferably provided at a depth into the surface the sheet such that they do not substantially decrease the strength of the sheet or affect off-groove scoring. Thus, a score mark can be made between or across grooves without deflection of the mark into a groove and without breakage of the sheet along a groove when the sheet is bent.

Method for converting units of measurement

A method for performing unit conversions. The method employs a calculating device comprised of an alphanumeric keypad and a display device. Required inputs include a numeric value, or an expression that can be evaluated as a numeric value, representing the quantity of the unit string to be converted from, an undesired unit string and a desired unit string. Each unit string can consist of a single unit or a plurality of units joined by arithmetic symbols. Units are entered by typing the full spelling of the unit name or the spelling of an alias name on an alphanumeric keypad. The method segregates the unit string into its component parts, specifically, unit names, positive and negative exponents, multiplication and division. Each numerator and denominator undesired unit is respectively converted to a numerator and denominator desired unit. All derived units which can not be converted are replaced with their equated unit string comprised of two or more other units which may be base units or other derived units. The conversion process continues until all numerator and denominator units are converted, or until there are no more derived units to substitute other units for. If all units are successfully converted, the conversion factors used in the conversion process are multiplied together and multiplied by the numeric input value. The result is then displayed.

Method, system, and apparatus for converting numbers between measurement systems based upon semantically labeled strings

Number conversion between different units of measurement in a document is enabled. A string of text entered into an application program is analyzed to determine whether it includes a number having an associated unit name. Found numbers with associated unit names are semantically labeled with schema information identifying the unit name as a source unit of measurement. When the number is selected or an indication received that the number is labeled with schema information, a list of actions may be provided identifying conversion options for the number. In response to selection of one of the conversion options, the selected number is converted to the destination unit of measure identified by the selected action. The converted number may then be inserted into the string of text to replace the selected number along with a unit name corresponding to the destination unit of measure.

Pallet detection using units of physical length

An image of a physical environment is acquired that comprises a plurality of pixels, each pixel including a two-dimensional pixel location in the image plane and a depth value corresponding to a distance between a region of the physical environment and the image plane. For each pixel, the two dimensional pixel location and the depth value is converted into a corresponding three-dimensional point in the physical environment defined by three coordinate components, each of which has a value in physical units of measurement. A set of edge points is determined within the plurality of three-dimensional points based, at least in part, on the z coordinate component of the plurality of points and a distance map is generated comprising a matrix of cells. For each cell of the distance map, a distance value is assigned representing a distance between the cell and the closest edge point to that cell.

A straight edge exists along the length as do distance markings in at least one unit of measurement. A user input interface 1) receives user inputs of measurement in a format corresponding to the unit of measurement, and / or 2) shows a measurement made automatically by the ruler. A plurality of visual indicators, such as fiber optics, LEDs, etc., extend along the length and light in an amount corresponding to the user inputs or the measurement made. In this manner, basic rulers for school-aged children provide measurement capability in the absence of sufficient gradations. It also gives feedback regarding correctness to stimulate learning in adolescent students. An optical array also serves to transmit / receive light to automatically take the measurements upon indications from a user. A processor connects to the indicators and array for controlling lighting.

Apparatus and method for measuring and reporting processor capacity and processor usage in a computer system with processors of different speed and/or architecture

In a computer system that includes multiple processors, each processor in a computer system is assigned a processor class. Processor capacity and usage are monitored according to the class assigned to the processor. Capacity and usage are reported on a class-by-class basis so that the capacity and performance of different classes of processors are not erroneously compared or summed. The capacity and usage are monitored and reported in an abstract unit of measurement referred to as a “CPU time unit”. Processors of the same type that run at different clock speeds or that have different internal circuitry enabled are preferably assigned the same class, with one or more conversion factors being used to appropriately scale the performance of the processors to the common CPU time unit for this class.

Method and System for Representing Quantitative Properties in a Computer Program and for Validating Dimensional Integrity of Mathematical Expressions

A software method and system for efficiently representing values of quantitative properties, or dimensions, such as scientifically measured or computed quantities. Each quantitative dimension may be represented by a class defined in an object-oriented programming language. Each quantity of a dimension is represented by an object of the class representing the dimension objects may be used without knowledge of the internal representation of its objects. The class provides storage and computational efficiency comparable to that of using a computer's native numbers of the same range and precision as the quantities involved. The classes may include object constructors, arithmetic operators, and constants representing conventional units of measurement. Type-safe operators and functions in a mathematical expression accept quantity objects as arguments and compute objects as results. The method and system provide for compile-time validation of the dimensional integrity of the expression.

Method and Apparatus for Producing Full Synchronization of a Digital File with a Live Event

A method and apparatus are provided for producing full synchronization of a digital file with a live event. Using time-based cues such as musical beats, the live event is time mapped. The video file to be synced is measured in frames per second is then translated from its frames per second original time code into the time code of the live event in beats per minute making it possible to measure the playback rate of the source media file in the same units of measurement as the live event. The result is a playback mechanism that allows for more precise real time playback rate corrections by an operator by providing a visible cue so they can better keep the source media synced with the live event, even if there are real time tempo variations in the live event.

Line 26) or on the left or right side of the vertical sighting base line (See FIG. 2. Line 27) at any unit of measurement of a segment and have the 6 / 10th and the 8 / 10th hash mark placed at the opposite side of the horizontal base sighting line (See FIG. 2. Line 26) and the vertical sighting lines (See FIG. 2. Line 27) compared with the 2 / 10th and the 4 / 10th marks. This new way of placing hash marks at every 2 / 10th of the unit of measurement allows a user to quickly identify and discern which numerical value a hash mark represents on the horizontal base sighting line and vertical sighting line without physically counting the numerical value of a hash mark in a linear way.
