UV sterilizer

A box-type sterilizer using C-band Ultra-Violet (UVC) radiation is based on a hollow rectangular box with a door on one end. Mounted proximate to the interior surfaces of the box are lamps that, when powered, produce UVC radiation. In operation, an object to be sterilized is placed inside the box, the door is closed and the lamps are briefly powered. Any DNA-based organisms present on the object to be sterilized are killed by the UVC radiation. Cross tubes of quartz glass, which are transparent to UVC radiation, are used to support the object to be sterilized and separate the object to be sterilized from the lamps on the bottom interior surface. Cross tubes of quartz glass are also used to separate the object to be sterilized from the lamps on the other interior surfaces.

Ultraviolet radiation system

The present invention provides an ultraviolet radiation system which generates UVC radiation with maximal radiation output and little or no degradation in radiation output during operation of the lamps. The system provides UVC radiation at a wavelength of 253.7 nm, which is effective to kill or deactivate pathogens on surfaces irradiated by the emitted UVC radiation and is simultaneously effective to decontaminate air which passes uniformly over the entire length of the UVC lamps. Uniformly flowing air cools the lamps to maximize the conversion efficiency of power input to the lamps to UVC radiation from the lamps, and at the same time decontaminates the flowing air such that air in the room is also decontaminated.

Ultraviolet High-Level Ultrasound Transducer Disinfection System

A UVC disinfection system which produces a dosage of UVC radiation sufficient to kill Clostridium difficile and other pathogens in a simple fast and unique manner. The system is especially useful for sterilizing and disinfecting medical ultrasound probes or transducers. The system in one embodiment comprises an enclosure for housing a plurality of UVC lamps which are disposed around a central area in which an ultrasound transducer can be disposed. The lamps are disposed in a vertical orientation, as is the transducer and provide 360° of UVC radiation around the transducer for effective and efficient decontamination. The UVC lamps can also be provided at the bottom of the enclosure. The system is controlled by an electronic controller which typically is a microprocessor based controller for control of the ballasts for the UVC lamps and having associated control switches and displays. The current input to the ballasts is monitored by the controller to assure that the UVC lamps are operating properly. A UVC radiation sensor provided in the housing monitors radiation intensity from the lamps. If the current and / or radiation intensity is below reference levels, the system is shut down by the controller.
