Shaped solid comprising oxidant bleach with encapsulate source of bleach

Aqueous bleach solutions can be made by directing a spray of water onto a bulk or shaped solid (brick, tablet, block, etc.) comprising a continuous solid phase of an encapsulated source of an active halogen bleach or a solid comprising a source of an oxidizing active halogen bleach, and an encapsulated oxidizing halogen bleach source. Such shaped solids can be used to dispense uniform quantities of an aqueous bleach concentrate to bleaching locus such as a washing machine. The tablets can be made from the encapsulated bleach or from a powder mixture of a particulate, granulated or powdered unencapsulated source of active oxidizing bleach and an encapsulated source of active oxidizing bleach by forming the powder mixture into a desired shape. Such a shaped solid bleach can be packaged in a container and can then be contacted with an aqueous spray in a dispenser to create a solution of active bleach for cleaning bleaching processes. The presence of the encapsulate in the solid with the powder reduces the tendency of the solid to absorb water which can be wicked through the solid to pass water through the solid into adjacent solids. Substantial proportions of absorbed water can cause the tablets to crack, crumble and to periodically dispense uneven, substantially large and undesirable concentrations of active bleach into a wash or bleach cycle. Such large amounts of halogen can cause corrosion of metal machine or dispenser parts, clothing damage, can cause pinholing or other fabric damage, can result in color loss or change, or can result in other undesirable effects in either the dispenser, washing machine or the cleaned item.

Color stable hypochlorous sanitizer and methods

Manual warewashing in common food service locations is typically performed in a multicompartment sink within three or more basins. In one basin the ware is contacted with an aqueous solution of a detergent composition. The ware is cleaned using mechanical action to remove soil. The cleaned ware is often rinsed in a subsequent sink in a potable water rinse and is then sanitized in a sanitizing solution in a subsequent basin, typically the third sink in sequence. The sanitizing solution can be rapidly depleted during periods of large volumes of hand washed ware. In order to monitor and control the concentration of the sanitizer in the sanitizer sink, we have found that even highly oxidizing hypochlorite bleaches, if adjusted to an appropriate pH, can maintain substantial sanitizing capacity while not decolorizing otherwise oxidatively sensitive dyes. In the method of the invention, the sanitizing solution adjusted to a pH of less than about 7 containing a dye can maintain a stable dye solution for a period of time greater than the time required to deplete 90% or more of the OCl-1 in solution. As a result, the hand washing staff can have a satisfactory indication of the existence of active sanitizer in the sanitizer step based on the presence of color in the aqueous solution.

The invention belongs to the technical field of ballast water treatment in the shipping process, and relates to a composite ship ballast water treatment method. The method comprises two steps of high-efficiency filtration and inactivation treatment by a reinjection electrolysis process; the high-efficiency filtration is to serially connect a filter to an output port, through which the ballast water is loaded into a ship ballast tank, of a ballast pump to remove pelagic organisms and suspended particles; the rated flow of the filter is the same as the flow of the ballast water; the inactivation treatment by the reinjection electrolysis method is that when the ballast water is loaded, a booster pump is used to extract partial ballast water from a water inlet manifold at an outlet end of the filter to flow through an electrolytic tank, and chloride ions are oxidized on a positive electrode of the electrolytic tank to generate chlorine to be dissolved in the ballast water to generate sodium hypochlorite; and the sodium hypochlorite solution is reinjected into the water inlet manifold by the booster pump to be mixed evenly to ensure that the concentration of the sodium hypochlorite realizes the killing to residual harmful aquatic organisms. The method has the advantages of simple process route, reliable principle, and good treatment effect.

Cyclic process for the efficient generation of chlorine dioxide in dilute solutions

An efficient cyclic process and related compositions for the in-situ generation of chlorine dioxide from dilute solutions of chlorite anions at near neutral pH. The cyclic process provides a means of safe and effective use of chlorine dioxide with reduced concern of chlorite accumulation in the aqueous system. The disclosed chemistry used to support the cyclic process can be applied independently or in various combinations that are effectively inert. This dramatically reduces safety concerns since the chlorine dioxide is produced in-situ to the application and in dilute concentrations. Also, the process allows for regeneration of inert anions such as bromide and chlorite thereby reducing operating cost.
