Imaging apparatus and method of optical-black clamping

An imaging apparatus has a solid-state image sensing device having an imaging area divided into left and right sub-imaging areas, a first optical-black (OB) area and a second OB area being provided at both edges of the imaging area in the horizontal direction. First video signals are extracted from monitoring areas in the sub-imaging areas close to the border between the sub-imaging areas. Optical-black clamping is applied to second video signals output from the sub-imaging areas by subtracting a first OB signal indicating an OB level in the first OB area from the second video signal output from one of the sub-imaging area and subtracting a second OB signal indicating an OB level in the second OB area from the second video signal output from the other of the sub-imaging areas. Detected first in the optical-black clamping is a level difference between the extracted first video signals. Calculated next is an adjusting value per row of pixels, that provides the smallest level difference per row of pixels in the imaging area based on the detected level difference. The first OB signal is subtracted from one of the second video signals and the second OB signal is subtracted from the other second video signal, thus outputting an optical-black-clamped video signal. Video-signal levels are adjusted by multiplying the optical-black-clamped video signal by the adjusting value.

Superconductor analog to digital converter

Superconductor analog-to-digital converters (ADC) offer high sensitivity and large dynamic range. One approach to increasing the dynamic range further is with a subranging architecture, whereby the output of a coarse ADC is converted back to analog and subtracted from the input signal, and the residue signal fed to a fine ADC for generation of additional significant bits. This also requires a high-gain broadband linear amplifier, which is not generally available within superconductor technology. In a preferred embodiment, a distributed digital fluxon amplifier is presented, which also integrates the functions of integration, filtering, and flux subtraction. A subranging ADC design provides two ADCs connected with the fluxon amplifier and subtractor circuitry that would provide a dynamic range extension by about 30-35 dB.

Method for cancelling conditional delay slot instructions

A first tag is assigned to a branch instruction. Dependent on the type of branch instruction, a second tag is assigned to an instruction in the branch delay slot of the branch instruction. If the branch is mispredicted, the first tag is broadcast to pipeline stages that may have speculative instructions, and the first tag is compared to tags in the pipeline stages to determine which instructions to cancel. The assignment of tags for a fetch group of concurrently fetched instructions may be performed in parallel. A plurality of branch sequence numbers may be generated, and one of the plurality may be selected for each instruction responsive to the cumulative number of branch instructions preceding that instruction within the fetch group. The selection may be further responsive to whether or not the instruction is in a conditional delay slot.

Nonlinear distortion compensating receiver and nonlinear distortion compensation method

Disclosed are a nonlinear distortion compensating receiver and nonlinear distortion compensation method, wherein nonlinear distortion is reduced with a simple circuit configuration. A correction (opposite characteristics) filter (104) has characteristics opposite that of the frequency characteristics of a direct sampling mixer (102) and corrects signals sampled by the direct sampling mixer (102). In the main path, a LPF (106) extracts a frequency band component of a desired signal from the corrected signal. In the replica path, a BPF (107) extracts the frequency band component of a blocker signal from the corrected signal. A cubing circuit (108) uses the frequency band component of the blocker signal to generate a replica signal for the nonlinear distortion. An adaptive filter (110) performs filter processing on the replica signal while updating the filter coefficients. A subtractor (111) subtracts the output signal of the adaptive filter (110) from the frequency band component of the extracted desired signal and outputs the subtraction result as the desired signal.

Method for reducing noise in a vehicle cabin

A method of controlling noise from a six cylinder engine that can selectively use in separate operating modes either three cylinders, four cylinders, or all six cylinders, is provided that uses a noise cancellation system to provide a cancellation sound at a first frequency representative of the engine operating mode. When the vehicle changes, for example, from a three cylinder utilization mode to six cylinder utilization mode, the method extends the provision of the noise cancellation sound, at a frequency representative of three cylinder operation, beyond the time when three cylinder mode is changed to six cylinder mode. As a result, a residual “pop” noise associated with the vehicle exhaust, that is traditionally heard during the transition period is cancelled and no longer noticeable. The method also includes implementation of a waiting time before a providing cancellation sounds of different frequencies, to avoid amplitude mismatch.

Light Flicker Canceling Glasses

Most electric light sources flicker, that is, the intensity of the light that is produced varies substantially in a periodically repeating pattern. In sensitive individuals, light flicker can cause headaches and other undesirable symptoms. This invention comprises a light sensor that measures light intensity, signal processing that identifies the flicker component of the light, and electrically controlled lenses of glasses (spectacles) that rapidly darken or become more transparent so as to cancel most of the flicker. This reduces the flicker seen by the wearer of the glasses, reducing discomfort.

Transmission-reception device

A transmission-reception device includes an antenna duplexer, an antenna, and first and second transmission-reception circuits. A demultiplexer is connected between the first transmission-reception circuit and the antenna duplexer, and a multiplexer is connected between the second transmission-reception circuit and the antenna duplexer. A signal adjusting unit is connected between the demultiplexer and the multiplexer. The amplitude and phase of a third harmonic signal of a first transmission signal reflected by the antenna are detected. The signal adjusting unit adjusts the amplitude and phase of the third harmonic signal demultiplexed by the demultiplexer on the basis of the detection results, and outputs a cancel signal. The multiplexer synthesizes and hence cancels the third harmonic signal reflected by the antenna and the cancel signal with each other.
