Active Noise Cancellation Using a Predictive Approach

A method for active noise cancellation in a volume generates a mathematical model of a noise process to be cancelled. Using the mathematical model, a noise signal in a next sample period is predicted from a measured noise signal. The predicted signal is inverted and applied to the volume. Destructive interference of the noise signal and the inverted signal cancels the noise in the volume.

Programable method and apparatus for real-time adaptation of presentations to individuals

The present invention is a method of obtaining information regarding an individual's environment using a programmable device. The first step of the method is sensing a psychomotor behavioral element of an activity engaged by the individual. The type of activity engaged by the individual can be any senseable activity under the sun, including breathing, thinking, generating heat, etc. The next step in the inventive method is determining the preferred modalities of the individual based on the psychomotor behavioral element of the activity engaged by the individual. Provided herein are calculations used for determining the preferred modalities of the individual based on the psychomotor behavioral element of the activity. In the present context, the preferred modalities are the semi-conscious or nonconscious desires of the individual, indicated by nonconscious actions, to experience her environment in a specific manner. The information obtained by the inventive method can be used in several ways. One way to use the information obtained is by automatically altering the environment. Another way to use the information is to make the individual or other individuals aware of the nonconscious or semi-conscious interests.

Gasification apparatus

A gasification system having a combustor vessel, an optional scrubber vessel, an optional fixer vessel, an optional cyclone vessel and an optional demister vessel. A wide variety of possibly moist solid or semi-solid carbonaceous fuels may be partially combusted in the combustor to generate a combustible gas and a mineral ash. An improved ash support and removal subsystem reduces clogging and other problems. The combustible gas is conveyed by optional heavy-duty blowers through the optional vessels to remove liquids and particulates and to undergo catalytic chemical reactions to provide a relatively clean, dry, highly-combustible hydrocarbon gas that captures a relatively high fraction of the potential heating value of the fuel. Internal gases, liquids and particulates from the vessels may be recycled inside the system to improve efficiency and prevent liquid waste. A portion of the internal liquids may also be extracted for other uses.

Spherical vibrating probe apparatus and method for conducting efficacy analysis of pain treatment using probe apparatus

InactiveUS20110166622A1Reduce chronic intractable painSuppress painElectrotherapyVibration massagePatient treatmentElectricity
A patient treatment unit and method analyzes and treats pain in tissues by applying an electrical pulse train and a galvanically isolated stimulus voltage to affected tissues using vibrating spherical tip probes. A range of probe diameters is used to provide a range of applied current densities. The impedance of the affected tissue is measured, tracked, and correlated to a level of pain while treatment is in progress. Impedance is used as real-time feedback, and current and voltage applications are adjusted accordingly. A patient treatment unit includes a probe stimulus generator connected to the spherically tipped probes. The unit further includes an impedance analysis circuit that senses voltage and current via the probes when they are contacting the patient. A monitor is electrically coupled to the body impedance analysis circuit and provides an indication of the measured impedance indicative of the patient's level of pain.

Gasification apparatus and method

A gasification system is disclosed having a combustor, a scrubber, a finisher, and optionally a recycler. A carbonaceous fuel is partially combusted in the combustor to generate a combustible gas. An improved ash support and removal system reduces clogging and other problems in the combustor. The combustible gas passes through the scrubber to remove matter such as tar and oil and to undergo preliminary catalytic chemical reactions. The scrubbed gas passes through a hybrid blower to the finisher. Final catalytic chemical reactions occur in the finisher, and wood chips or other filters may also be used in the finisher to provide a relatively clean, dry, combustible gas. Wastewater and other waste products from the scrubber and finisher are captured in the recycler and returned to the combustor.

Method for Two-Channel Coding of a Message

A method for encoding a message including the steps of performing two-channel encoding of the message into a robust string and a fragile string; transmitting the robust string through a fragile channel; and transmitting the fragile string though a robust channel (FIG. 6). Before the step of performing two-channel encoding of the message into a robust string and a fragile string the number of characters in the message may be reduced to reduce the size of the encode message. The two channel encoding step includes the steps of creating the robust string by encoding the message using the codeword dictionary; and creating the fragile string by encoding the message using a compression algorithm. The robust string may be transmitted by embedding the robust string in an image. The fragile string may be transmitted by embedding the fragile string in a 2-D bar code.
