An LED assembly according to an embodiment of the present invention may improve dark regions generated between LED chips by employing a first reflective layer between the LED chips. By employing a transparent optical layer or an optical layer including a scattering particle between an LED chip and a phosphor layer, direct contact between the LED chip and the phosphor layer may be avoided, thereby preventing a low light extraction efficiency. An EL element 1 comprises EL functional layers 6, 10 comprising Ga₂O₃:Eu between a thick film insulator layer 16 and an upper electrode 12 provided on a substrate 2 on which a lower electrode 4 was formed and a light-emitting layer 8 comprising MgGa₂O₄ formed therebetween. A color splitting/combining optical system includes a first optical member for color splitting and a second optical member which has a polarization splitting surface for color splitting/combining, a third optical member for color combining a first color-selective wave plates and a second color-selective wave plate. According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a color filter having a blue pixel portion capable of achieving a liquid crystal display device that exhibits high contrast and high brightness.
