Internal osteotomy fixation device

An internal osteotomy fixation apparatus is provided. The device comprises a distal plate including a channel. A slide is slidably received within the channel such that the slide is translatable with respect to the distal plate along a first axis. A proximal plate is hingedly connected to the slide, such that the proximal plate has two degrees of freedom relative to the distal plate. A ledge protruding from a first portion of the proximal plate is configured to support a proximal bone segment when the device is implanted. The slide includes ratchet teeth. A ratchet arm including teeth is attached to the distal plate, and configured to engage the slide ratchet teeth. A cross-section of the ratchet arm is configured to maintain a constant stress level along a flexed portion of the arm. The distal plate includes a shelf upon which the ratchet arm rests. Compressive loads borne by the device are translated through the shelf to the distal plate. A minimum length of the device is related to the longer of the ratchet arm or the segment of teeth on the slide. The distal plate includes a hole through which a release mechanism is accessible.

Compact turbocharger

A turbocharger comprising two closely spaced ball bearings that does not require lubricating oil from an engine. The bearing housing forms a cooling jacket with two bearing engagement surfaces engaged with the outer races of the ball bearings through an intermediate radial spring. Closely spacing the ball bearings provides a rotor shaft of minimal length. In addition, an external motor-generator may be by mounted on the turbocharger, with the motor rotor solidly connected to the turbocharger rotor. In such an assembly, an electronic control is energizes the motor from battery power during acceleration up to approximately torque peak speed; thereafter, the control changes to a generator mode when there is excess energy in the engine exhaust gas.

System and Method for Time-Domain Equalization in Discrete Multi-tone Systems

A novel time-domain equalizer (TEQ) is provided for the receiver of a Discrete Multi-tone (DMT) system to shorten the length of the effective channel impulse response. The TEQ is based on a variant of the conventional decision-feedback equalizer (DFE) structure along with a training method for the TEQ settings. By using this DFE-based TEQ for DMT systems, the data symbols transmitted through the effective shortened channel would be more reliable.

Resist material and nanofabrication method

A resist material and a nanofabrication method provide high-resolution nanofabrication without an expensive irradiation apparatus using, for example, electron beams or ion beams. That is, the resist material and the nanofabrication method provide finer processing using exposure apparatuses currently in use. A resist layer of an incompletely oxidized transition metal such as W and Mo is selectively exposed and developed to be patterned in a predetermined form. The incompletely oxidized transition metal herein is a compound having an oxygen content slightly deviated to a lower content from the stoichiometric oxygen content corresponding to a possible valence of the transition metal. In other words, the compound has an oxygen content lower than the stoichiometric oxygen content corresponding to a possible valence of the transition metal.

Complex geometries made of composite material and forming process for same

InactiveUS20080268208A1Reducing area of influence of formed areaMinimal lengthSynthetic resin layered productsAdhesivesFiberEngineering
The invention proposes a forming process for forming geometrically complex laminates made of composite material which allows obtaining very complex folded geometries, reducing the area of influence of the formed areas and making its effect local, handling the geometry of the laminate near the area to be formed, replacing the formed geometries with folded geometries, this way forcing the area of influence of the forming to be local, such that the length of the reinforcing fibers affected by said forming is minimal. The present invention also relates to complex geometries of laminates made of composite material obtained by means of the previous forming process.

Grain conveyor with high lift belt

A belt conveyor for grain or other granular materials has an enclosed housing, a bottom return, an infeed end and a discharge head. The conveyor uses a special high angle lift belt with projecting lugs of approximately two inches high and having cooperating angled elements that form material receiving pockets. The lugs are arrayed on the belt in meshing relationship so that as the belt curls laterally within the housing, the lugs prevent backflow of materials at least up to a forty degree angle when the conveyor is running. The bottom return section of the conveyor has a plurality of belt supporting rollers extending transversely across the return section. The belt lugs are also arranged so that upper ends of the lugs form a longitudinally and transversely continuous supportive surface for low friction running support by the belt return rollers.
