165 results about "Rotary union" patented technology

A rotary union is a union that allows for rotation of the united parts. It is thus a device that provides a seal between a stationary supply passage (such as pipe or tubing) and a rotating part (such as a drum, cylinder, or spindle) to permit the flow of a fluid into and/or out of the rotating part. Fluids typically used with rotary joints and rotating unions include various heat transfer media and fluid power media such as steam, water, thermal oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolants. A rotary union is sometimes referred to as a rotating union, rotary valve, swivel union, rotorseal, rotary couplings, rotary joint, rotating joints, hydraulic coupling, pneumatic rotary union, through bore rotary union, air rotary union, electrical rotary union, or vacuum rotary union...

Integrated rotary union and hub cap

A rotary union is integrated into the interior of a heavy-duty vehicle hub cap. The hub cap includes a cylindrical sidewall, and an outboard wall that is integrally formed with an outboard end of the sidewall, and which extends generally perpendicular to the sidewall. The hub cap also includes a radially-extending flange that is formed on an inboard end of the sidewall, which receives fasteners to mount the hub cap on a wheel hub. The sidewall and the outboard wall form an interior compartment in the hub cap, and a rotary union is mounted to the hub cap in the interior compartment. The rotary union is mounted on the inboard surface of the outboard wall of the hub cap and is in general axial alignment with an axial centerline of a wheel end assembly, providing fluid communication from a tire inflation system to the tires of the vehicle.

Intelligent Tire Inflation and Deflation System Apparatus

An intelligent tire pressure management system capable of real-time tire pressure monitoring, vehicle load detection, and automatic tire inflation and deflation for maintaining optimal tire pressure in a commercial vehicle. Additional functions include counting tire rotations for calculating and recording distance travelled for each tire, and detecting wheel sliding due to locked-up tires. The system includes a chassis-mounted control box connecting to the vehicle air supply, a hubcap-mounted dual wheel valve apparatus integrated with a rotary union assembly that connects through the vehicle hollowed axles to the air tubes from the control box. The inflation / deflation supporting dual wheel valve apparatus has an embedded electronic unit that monitors individual tire pressure and temperature in real time, and communicates with the control box over the power line. Furthermore a load sensor integrated with the control box provides the system with the current vehicle load information. With readily available real time tire pressure data and current vehicle load information, this system can intelligently adjusts tire pressure to the desired level when necessary and, as a result, prolongs tire life, improves fuel economy, reduces the vehicle maintenance costs, and promptly alerts the driver of low, leaky or flat tire conditions for enabling the driver to take immediate corrective actions.

Central tire inflation system rotary air union

A central tire inflation system for maintaining tire inflation on a vehicle having a torque transfer sleeve connected between an axle plug assembly and a stationary shaft on the rotary union assembly. A flexible conduit extends through the axle plug to the rotary union assembly and is used to provide air pressure to tires connected to the rotary union assembly. The torque transfer sleeve limits rotational torque on the flexible conduit. Primary and secondary seals are provided on the rotary union assembly as well. A vent chamber between the primary and secondary seals allows the release of air which exits the primary seal, which prevents pressure from entering the lubrication area of the rotary union assembly.

Rotary union assembly for use in air pressure inflation systems for tractor trailer tires

A rotary union assembly for an automatic tire inflation system for maintaining the pressure in the tires on a tractor trailer or other vehicle having a source of pressurized air for communication with the tires. The assembly communicates the tires with the air source through the axle interior using a conduit having a rigid portion and a flexible portion that extends between a support in the axle spindle and a rotary union housing secured against the outside end surface of the hub cap so as to be outside the wheel lubrication compartment and rotatable with the hub cap. The two-component conduit allows for a durable seal with the support in the axle spindle and accommodates misalignment of the rotary union housing with the conduit support. Relief valves in the housing prevent excessive pressure buildups in the housing and in the hub cap in the event of an air leak.

Mobile cyclonic power wash system with water reclamation and rotary union

A cyclonic power wash system uses high pressure, high temperature water for selectively cleaning large, flat, concrete or asphalt surfaces. The sprayed water is reclaimed by vacuuming it through holes in the bottom of a reclamation ring attached to the underside of the mobile cyclone sprayer, filtering the vacuumed water and returning it to a storage tank for re-use by the system. The filtration tank initially filters out large matter in an inlet trough and smaller matter in a plurality of cascading chambers. A rotary union in the sprayer prevents the water, passing from the inlet of the rotary union to the discharge thereof, from leaking through or around a seal formed by pressing together a pair of hard, durable sealing surfaces, for example, silicon carbide, one of which is non-rotatably slidingly received in an upper recess of the union's fixed housing and the other, affixed to a spindle rotatably received and retained in a lower recess of the housing. The sliding fit interface of the non-rotatable seal face in the upper recessed housing is sealed by an o-ring supported at its inner bore by extended portions adjacent the central bores of the members between which it is sandwiched. Upward and rotational forces are applied to the spindle in reaction to the water exiting from nozzles affixed to a spray bar attached to the spindle.
