Binned remembered sets

A garbage collector that performs collection incrementally in accordance with the train algorithm employs remembered sets to keep track of locations where references to objects in respective car sections were written. The remembered sets are implemented as multi-level hash tables. The entries in the top-level hash table are pointers to constituent hash tables in which entries representing the reference locations are placed. When a constituent hash table becomes full, the collector thins it by allocating a new constituent table, transferring some of the previously full table's entries to the new table, and dividing further reference-location-representing entries among them in accordance with a hash function having an expanded range.

Multiplex communication with slotted retransmission on demand

A method for communication in a sequence of frames includes assigning a respective time slot to each of a plurality of mobile units, while reserving an unassigned time slot. During a first frame, one of the mobile units transmits an uplink signal in the respective time slot, carrying first uplink data over the air to a base station. The base station transmits a downlink signal to the mobile unit indicating that retransmission of the first uplink data is required. Responsively to the downlink signal, during a second frame subsequent to the first frame, the mobile unit transmits the uplink signal both in the respective time slot and in the reserved time slot so as to carry the first uplink data and second uplink data over the air to the base station. A similar method may be used for downlink retransmission.

System and method for generating trace data in a computing system

A hardware trace unit is integrated into a computer system that has a main memory. The trace unit includes registers that contain information defining a location in main memory, and has an input connection. This is used to eavesdrop on communications in the computer system, thereby obtaining information about the state and / or operation of the system. A trigger mechanism then compares the information received against one or more trigger conditions, such as whether a particular event has occurred. Responsive to the trigger conditions being satisfied, the trace unit generates an output record containing diagnostic information. This is sent for storage in the main memory of the computer at the location defined in the registers.

Method and apparatus for using voxel mip maps and brick maps as geometric primitives in image rendering process

A system, apparatus and method of rendering images for computer graphics or animation at multiple levels of detail or resolution. The invention uses a hierarchical data structure and provides methods of generating and using that structure for rendering images. The invention generates a data structure containing data elements representing multiple resolutions of data and then determines a desired resolution for the image. The data elements in the data structure corresponding to the desired resolution are accessed and each data element in the accessed data is associated with a renderable primitive. The image is then rendered by processing the renderable primitive associated with each data element.

Wireless communications system

A wireless communications system in which real-time data and burst data can be mixedly transmitted, and a transmission band can be dynamically assigned according to a state of data transmission. A master station has a scheduler for determining a transmission band assignment including information about the transmission timing of the data, a transmission amount, and a station that is allowed to access. The scheduler regularly carries out scheduling, and optimizes the transmission band to be assigned dynamically according to the communication type of the data and a state of data transmission. The master station gives a transmission band assignment which is determined by the scheduler to each slave station. A transmitting station executes data transmission (access) to a receiving station based on the given transmission band assignment. The receiving station gives information about a state of data receiving to the master station, where the scheduler reflects this on scheduling.

Methods and apparatus for decoding LDPC codes

Methods and apparatus for decoding codewords using message passing decoding techniques which are particularly well suited for use with low density parity check (LDPC) codes and long codewords are described. The described methods allow decoding graph structures which are largely comprised of multiple identical copies of a much smaller graph. Copies of the smaller graph are subject to a controlled permutation operation to create the larger graph structure. The same controlled permutations are directly implemented to support message passing between the replicated copies of the small graph. Messages corresponding to individual copies of the graph are stored in a memory and accessed in sets, one from each copy of the graph, using a SIMD read or write instruction. The graph permutation operation may be implemented by simply reordering messages, e.g., using a cyclic permutation operation, in each set of messages read out of a message memory so that the messages are passed to processing circuits corresponding to different copies of the small graph.
