In-plane rotation invariant object detection in digitized images

In methods, systems, and computer program products for locating a regularly configured object within a digital image, a plurality of primary rotated integral images of the digital image are computed. Each primary rotated integral image has a different in-plane rotation. A set of secondary rotated integral images are derived from each of the primary rotated integral images. The secondary rotated integral images have further in-plane rotations relative to the respective primary rotated integral image. A window is defined within the digital image and corresponding windows of the rotated integral images. The values of convolution sums of a predetermined set of feature boxes within the window, in each of the rotated integral images are extracted. The dimensionality of the convolution sums is reduced to provide a set of reduced sums. A probability model is applied to the reduced sums to provide a best estimated derotated image of the window.

Vehicle seat and split console assembly

A vehicle seat assembly comprises a base; a seat mounted to swivel relative to the base; and a console having first and second segments, the first segment mounted to swivel with the seat relative to the base and the second segment being mounted to remain in fixed position as the seat and first console segment swivel. The console's two segments lie in a generally common horizontal plane and are separated by an arcuate spacing so that the first segment is located proximate the operator and the second segment is located distally of the operator. This arrangement of the seat assembly components allows the seated operator to rotate in the seat through a substantial arc, with the first console segment rotating as well while the second console segment remains stationary. In a second embodiment, the first and second console segments move with the seat as it swivels through a first rotational increment, but the second console segment remains stationary while the seat and first console segment swivel through a second rotational increment.

Optimal speed management for reaction wheel control system and method

A spacecraft attitude control system and method in which an attitude controller is configured for sensing three-dimensional attitude of the spacecraft, and producing torque signals for stabilizing the spacecraft in a prescribed attitude in space. At least four mutually skew reaction wheels are rotated in response to the torque control signals for storing three-dimensional angular momentum, and speeds of rotation of the wheels are measured. A reaction wheel speed control processor, responsive to reaction wheel torque and speed for producing reaction wheel spin control signals, implements an infinity-norm algorithm for causing the nullspace components of wheel speed to re-distribute a desired three-dimensional stabilizing momentum of the spacecraft in such a manner that the maximum speeds of rotation of all the reaction wheels is minimized. As a result, periods between successive momentum dumping maneuvers are prolonged to the maximum possible.

Control device and control method for lockup clutch and engine torque in a vehicle

If the a rotational speed difference (Ne−Nt) between an engine speed (Ne) and a turbine speed (Nt) when it is determined that a lock-up ON condition (OFF→ON) is satisfied is large, the lock-up clutch is not engaged but torque reduction control is executed to reduce the engine speed (Ne), thus reducing the rotational speed difference (Ne−Nt) (steps ST13 and ST14). Then, once the rotational speed difference (Ne−Nt) has been reduced to the target rotational speed difference (Nslp), the lock-up clutch is engaged (steps ST15 and ST16). In this manner, excessive heating of the friction material of the lock-up clutch is suppressed which increases the longevity of the friction material.

An object is to provide a control device of a dental handpiece that is able to prevent giving a shock to the operator having the dental handpiece and the patient of treatment subject and also that is able to reduce the load onto the motor and to suppress heat generation thereof. The rotational direction of a motor 20 of a dental handpiece is switched at every certain time. At this time, before the rotational direction of the motor 20 is switched through switching of a relay 17, voltage to be applied to the motor 20 is reduced. It is thereby prevented that a large current flows into the motor 20 when the relay 17 is switched, and also that a large rotation torque is applied to a cutting tool rotationally driven by the motor 20.
