Patient-worn energy delivery apparatus

A patient-worn energy delivery apparatus for imparting electrical therapy to the body of a patient responsive to an occurrence of a treatable condition includes a voltage converter for converting electrical energy from an initial voltage to a final voltage, and a defibrillator electrically coupled between the converter and the patient and having an energy reservoir for receiving the electrical energy. The defibrillator produces preshaped electrical pulses such as defibrillation pulses and cardioversion pulses. The apparatus additionally includes an energy delivery controller electrically coupled to the patient and the converter and the defibrillator. The controller causes the converter to provide the electrical energy to the defibrillator at a specific charging rate in response to an energy level in the reservoir. The apparatus may include a plurality of electrodes interposed between the defibrillator and the patient and each electrode preferably has an impedance reducing means contained therein. One embodiment of the apparatus may include a H-bridge to produce a positive-going pulse segment and the negative-going pulse segment within the biphasic exponential signals. The apparatus periodically measures the energy as it is being delivered to the patient and can pre-emptively stop or truncate the pulse in the event an error condition is detected, such as an overvoltage condition or if the energy level approaches a predetermined level. The electrical components which store and release the energy minimize the size and expense of the apparatus, while isolating the microcomputer from the high energy levels as the therapeutic pulse is delivered.

Scan module with pin stop

An optical scanning module has a metal base, a first circuit board mounted across one end of the metal base and a second circuit board mounted orthogonal to the first circuit board. The metal base supports a light emitter for producing a scanning beam and serves as a heat sink for the emitter. A flexible support attached to the metal base supports a mirror for oscillating motion. The module includes a drive mechanism, typically in the form of a permanent magnet and electromagnet, for producing reciprocal motion of the mirror. A detector included in the module senses light reflected from an indicia scanned by the beam. A flexible electrical cable connects the circuitry on the first and second circuit boards so that circuitry operates together to produce all signals necessary for operation of the scanner module and to process the electrical signals from the detector. Preferred embodiments include a flexible support consisting of a planar spring located between the mirror and one of the magnets. The components of the module are dimensioned so that the weight of the magnet balances that of the mirror. The invention also encompasses systems for scanning the beam simultaneously in two orthogonal directions at two different frequencies. This bi-directional scanning can produce a raster scan pattern for reading two-dimensional bar codes, or this scanning can produce a moving zig-zag pattern for reading truncated bar codes.

Multi-channel fluorescence detection device

The multi-channel fluorescence detection device includes an illumination module, plural heating chambers, a detection module and a transmission module. The illumination module includes at least one light source, plural different types of excitation filters, and a first rotational drum, wherein the light source provides a broad band illumination, each of the excitation filters passes light at a particular band width for exciting a targeted fluorescent probe, and the first rotational drum drives the excitation filters. The plural heating chambers are adapted for accommodating PCR tubes having samples and the targeted fluorescent probes. The detection module includes plural different types of emission filters, a second rotational drum and at least one photo-detector, wherein each of the emission filters passes light at a particular band width, the second rotational drum drives the emission filters, and the photo-detector receives fluorescent signals and converts the fluorescent signals to electrical signals. The transmission module includes an actuator connecting with the first and the second rotational drums to drive rotations of the first and the second rotational drum simultaneously for switching and synchronizing the excitation filters and the emission filters to match specific wavelengths of the targeted fluorescent probes.
