Visual-assisted guidance of an ultra-thin flexible endoscope to a predetermined region of interest within a lung during a bronchoscopy procedure. The region may be an opacity-identified by non-invasive imaging methods, such as high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) or as a malignant lung mass that was diagnosed in a previous examination. An embedded position sensor on the flexible endoscope indicates the position of the distal tip of the probe in a Cartesian coordinate system during the procedure. A visual display is continually updated, showing the present position and orientation of the marker in a 3-D graphical airway model generated from image reconstruction. The visual display also includes windows depicting a virtual fly-through perspective and real-time video images acquired at the head of the endoscope, which can be stored as data, with an audio or textual account.

Chip forming cutting insert with internal cooling

A cutting insert is cooled during chip removing machining of a workpiece by conducting cooling medium through a porous supporting body of the insert. The cooling medium enters the insert through an inlet formed therein at a location remote from a cutting edge of the insert and exits the insert through an outlet formed in the insert at a location proximate the cutting edge. The discharged cooling medium impinges on, and cools, the workpiece.

Watercraft with steer-responsive throttle

A watercraft with a steer-responsive throttle generates thrust when the steerable propulsion unit is turned beyond a predetermined angular threshold. The turning of the steering wheel beyond the threshold causes the throttle to be opened so that the steerable propulsion unit produces a thrust at least equal to the minimal propulsive force needed to effectively steer the watercraft. A watercraft equipped with a steerresponsive throttle ensures that there is always sufficient thrust for steering the watercraft even when the operator fails to open the throttle manually. This steerresponsive throttle is applicable to single-engine personal watercraft, twin-engine jet boats or motorboats equipped with swivel-mounted outboard motors. In a first embodiment of the steer-responsive throttle, rotation of the steering wheel beyond the angular threshold causes an actuating cable to open the throttle. In a second embodiment, an electronic control system regulates the throttle by calculating the optimal throttle setting based on measurements derived from a speed sensor, a steering angle sensor and, optionally, a throttle position sensor.

Band steering wi-fi direct client connections to dual band wi-fi direct autonomous group owner

A band steering method and a system for a wireless network is disclosed. The network comprises a first and a second radio band, an access node, and a plurality of client devices having single or dual band capability. According to the method, the access node receives a probe request from one of said client devices on the first or second radio band. The probe request indicates whether the client device has single or dual band capability. Thereafter, a probe response is generated by the access node only if the probe request indicates that the client device has single band capability, or if the probe request indicates that the client device has dual band capability and the probe request is received by the access node on the second radio band. On receiving the probe response the client device can use the appropriate radio band for communications within the network.
