Kinescope /ˈkɪnɪskoʊp/, shortened to kine /ˈkɪniː/, also known as telerecording in Britain, is a recording of a television program on motion picture film, directly through a lens focused on the screen of a video monitor. The process was pioneered during the 1940s for the preservation, re-broadcasting and sale of television programmes before the introduction of videotape from 1956 eventually superseded the use of kinescopes for all of these purposes. Kinescopes were the only practical way to preserve live television broadcasts prior to videotape.

The method comprises the following steps: a measuring standard for the white balance is set; the white balance measuring apparatus sends a television signal used for the measurement of the white balance to the radio-frequency head of the color TV set to be measured; the high-brightness probe and the low-brightness probe capture white balance measured data; the microprocessor of the color TV set to be measured receives the measured data through the communication interference; and the microprocessor of the color TV set to be measured performs the white balance adjustment according to the measured data and the set measuring standard. The invention is suitable for the white balance adjustment for the color TV set.

A method for evaluating a color picture tube includes displaying on a display surface of a color picture tube a measurement pattern including a plurality of first patterns arranged at different positions relative to fluophor dots of said color picture tube and a plurality of second patterns near said first patterns and sufficiently large relative to said fluophor dots. A first image is obtained using an imaging element to image said displayed measurement pattern. A second image is obtained using said imaging element to image while controlling light intake to allow brightness components of no more than about 1% of maximum luminance from said first image to be separated from noise and imaged. A third image is created by combining said first image and said second image while adjusting scales according to a light intake ratio. From said third image, display center positions of said plurality of first patterns is calculated using said second pattern positions. Discrete fluophor emission intensity distributions is calculated for each of said plurality of first patterns. An electron beam intensity distribution is obtained by matching display center positions of said plurality of first patterns and combining said plurality of first patterns.
