Protective assembly

An assembly for protecting biological tissue from the effects of heating. The assembly contains a conductor in contact with the biological tissue and forming an electrical circuit comprising the biological tissue. The assembly contains a device for modifying the impedance of the electrical circuit such that, at a frequency of from about 10 megahertz to about 150 megahertz, such impedance is at least about 0.5 ohms per centimeter of length of said conductor. The assembly also contains a device for limiting the flow of current through the biological tissue such that, when the assembly is exposed to an alternating current electromagnetic field at a frequency of 64 megahertz and a magnetic field strength of 1.5 Tesla for 15 minutes, the temperature of the biological tissue does not exceed 42 degrees Celsius.

Water blocking electrical cable

An electrical cable for shipboard use that can block water is disclosed. The electrical cable includes conductors, water swellable tapes, water swellable yarns, solid fillers, and a jacket. Each conductor is substantially wrapped with water swellable tape. The conductors are disposed adjacent to each other thereby forming interstitial voids between each of the conductors. Solid fillers and water swellable yarns are alternatively disposed in each interstitial void. Additional water swellable tape substantially envelopes the conductors, water swellable yarns, and solid fillers. The jacket is disposed on the outermost peripheral surface of the electrical cable.

The conductors of the system employ a layer which is impedance-matched to space, decreasing their cross-section to electromagnetic interference. Discontinued cable shield system and method

Implementations of a discontinuous cable shield system and method include a shield having a multitude of separated shield segments dispersed along a length of a cable to reduce crosstalk between signals being transmitted on transmission lines, such as twisted wire pairs of a cable. The separated shield segments can serve as an incomplete, patch-worked, discontinuous, ‘granulated’ or otherwise perforated shield that can have effectiveness when applied as shielding for differential transmission lines such as with twisted wire pairs.

Shielded parallel cable

The cable of the present invention contains at least one pair of insulated conductors and an optional drain wire. The insulate conductors and drain wire is longitudinally covered in a shielding tape, which preferably comprises a metallic sheet having an adhesive applied on selected portions of a surface of the metallic sheet. The adhesive is preferably applied in a checker board pattern so that the surface having adhesive thereon contains areas of uncoated, exposed metal forming contact pads. The shielding tape is then covered with two layers of polymeric tapes in opposite helical directions. The polymeric tape is preferably constructed of a polymeric sheet having a layer of adhesive disposed on a surface thereof. In a preferred embodiment, the tapes are wrapped around the shielding tape in opposite directions such that the adhesive surfaces face each other. The tapes are then optionally covered with a jacket.

Method and device for de-icing conductors of a bundle of conductors

A method and device for removing ice from overhead conductors of a bundle of conductors or preventing an accumulation of ice on these conductors. The method includes forcing the entire current load of the line in one or a portion of the conductors, the excessive power dissipated in this manner de-ices the conductor by Joule heating. The method is repeated for different conductors of the bundle until they have all been de-iced or for the entire duration of an ice storm. Electric power units are provided on each conductor to control the current circulation as needed, and a command module controls the entire system. Conducting elements are provided at the beginning and at the end of the line to allow a distribution of the current as needed.

A filter for wires and cables comprising at least one pair of inner conductive wires made of an electrically conductive metal covered with an outer layer of magnetic absorbing material. One or more sets of electrodes are placed on a patient's body and connected to corresponding terminals of an input extender.
