A freeform fabrication method for making a three-dimensional food object from a design created on a computer, including: (a) providing a support member by which the object is supported while being constructed; (b) operating a material dispensing head for dispensing a continuous or intermittent strand of food composition in a fluent state; this food composition including a liquid ingredient and a primary body-building food material and the dispensed food composition having a rigidity and strength sufficient for permitting the food composition to be built up layer by layer into a three-dimensional shape in a non-solid state; and (c) operating control devices for generating control signals in response to coordinates of the object design and controlling the position of the dispensing head relative to the support member in response to the control signals to control dispensing of the food composition to construct a 3-D shape of this object. The method optionally includes an additional step of applying a heat treatment to the 3-D shape after this 3-D shape is constructed. This method can be used to form an intricate shape of a cake mix, which is then baked in an oven. It can also be used to form a custom-designed decorative shape on the top surface of a pre-made cake.

Process for forming micro-fiber cellulosic nonwoven webs from a cellulose solution by melt blown technology and the products made thereby

This invention relates to a process of melt blowing a cellulose solution through a concentric melt blown die with multiple rows of spinning nozzles to form cellulosic microfiber webs with different web structures. The process comprises the steps of (a) extruding a cellulose solution (dope) through a melt blown spinneret with multiple rows of spinning nozzles; (b) drawing each individual extrudate filament to fine fiber diameter by its own air jet; (c) coagulating and entangling the fine fibers with a series of pressured hydro needling jets of recycling solution of the mixture of cellulose solvent and non-solvent in the spin-line; (d) collecting the stream of microfibers, air and needling jets on a moving collecting surface to form cellulosic fiber web; (e) hydro-entangling the said pre-bonded web downstream with at least one set of hydro needling jets of recycling solvent/non-solvent solution for forming well bonded nonwoven web; (f) regenerating the fine fibers in at least one bath for at least 5 seconds; (g) further regenerating and washing the fine fibers in another bath for at least 5 seconds; (h) pinching the well bonded melt blown cellulosic nonwoven with pressure rollers to remove major portions of the non-solvent; (i) drying the nonwoven web by heat, or vacuum or both, and (j) winding the nonwoven web into rolls.

Method and apparatus for extruding polymers employing microwave energy

An apparatus and method for molding balloon catheters is disclosed. The balloon may be molded by providing a polymeric tube within a mold having an interior cavity in the shape of the desired balloon. Microwave energy, which may be generated by a gyrotron, may then be directed toward the mold, to heat the polymeric material without heating the mold. Once heated, pressurized fluid may be injected into the tube to blow the polymeric material against the interior cavity whereupon the material can cool to form the balloon or can be further heatset by additional microwave energy and be cooled to form the balloon. In accordance with one embodiment, microwave energy can also be used without a mold to form a medical device. A polymer extrusion apparatus is disclosed utilizing a microwave energy for heating polymer feedstock material within the extruder tip and die unit just prior to formation of the extrudate product. A cooling bath mechanism, which in one embodiment can also include a cooling tube member having a cooling medium forced therethrough, is also disclosed. An apparatus for preparing polymer disk members, to use as the polymer feedstock material for the microwave extrusion apparatus, is also disclosed. Apparatus for interconnecting and rotating the polymer disk members, the die tip, or the die, or any combination thereof, for creating angularity characteristics in the polymer extrudate, is also disclosed.

Various grains nutritious vermicelli produced with dual-extrusion pressing and compound steam combined method

The invention relates to flour food, in particular to a minor cereal nutrient dried noodle produced by a double extrusion and secondary steaming combination method and a preparation method thereof. The invention is characterized in that the minor cereal nutrient dried noodle is prepared through the following steps: five cereals are taken as main raw materials, cucurbits, vegetables and potatoes are added or are not added, an auxiliary material capable of improving and enhancing the quality of a product and a complex quality improvement liquid are added, and processes such as raw material pretreatment, mixing and stirring, noodle-making molding by the double extrusion and secondary steaming combination method, drying, cutting, packing and so on, are performed. The reasonable formula design and the noodle-making molding process by the double extrusion and secondary steaming combination method, namely a process of steaming and cooking once again after two-stage extrusion molding, assure the balanced nutrition and the strong health care function of the product, and the minor cereal nutrient dried noodle has the advantages of long storage period, steady quality, no turbid soup during the cooking, boiling fastness, good thermal stability, smooth appearance, and chewy taste, and can be eaten as staple food like ordinary dried noodles.
