Stent systems and methods for spine treatment

Stent systems and methods for expanding and deploying stents in hard tissue such as bone, more particularly within a vertebral body. One exemplary method includes using a stent body that is coupled to a high speed rotational motor with the stent expandable and detachable from an introducer working end. In one embodiment, the stent is a deformable metal body with zig-zag type struts in an expanded configuration that carries diamond cutting particles bonded to the strut surfaces. The “spin” stent is rotated at high rpm's to remove cancellous bone from the deployment site together with irrigation and aspiration at the end of the probe that carries the stent. The stent may be expanded asymmetrically, such as with first and second balloons or by using an interior restraint, to apply vertical distraction forces to move apart the cortical endplates and support the vertebra in the distracted condition. The cancellous bone about the expanded stent as well as the interior of the stent can be filled with a bone cement, allograft or other bone graft material. In one method of use, the spin stent is designed and adapted for (i) treating a vertebral compression fracture (VCF) or for (ii) reinforcing an osteoporotic vertebral body.

The enlarged feature of the stylet is sufficiently long to assure that it advances along the passageway in slidable engagement with the inner surfaces of the coil conductor but without thrusting between adjoining coils.

With this arrangement, the operation is labor-saving. Further, the force exerting on the respective rotatable supports can be distributed efficiently to reduce the generation of damage and deformation.

A multi-stage turbine fuel pump (10) for automotive vehicles includes an inlet section (12) through which low pressure fuel is drawn into the pump, a first pump stage (14a) and a second pump stage (14b), and an outlet section (16) through which high pressure fuel is discharged from the pump. Components (13, 22a and 22b) comprising a pump inlet and respective first and second pump stages are aligned together by spring pins (32) inserted in open channels (36, 38, 44a and 44b) extending through the components so to improve fuel flow through the pump and prevent fuel leakage between the stages. Each pin has a hollow, cylindrical shape with a longitudinal slot (34) extending the length of the pin. The pins are made of a spring material, and each pin is compressed when inserted in place for the pin to thereafter press against a sidewall of the channel in which it is inserted, the force exerted by the pin on the channel sidewall maintaining alignment of the components.

A piezo valve actuated by an electric voltage.
