An apparatus and method for droplet steering is disclosed herein. A throated structure having a nozzle defines a converging throat with an inlet and an outlet and a vectored fluid stream directed therethrough. The fluid stream is driven through the system via a vacuum pump. As the fluid approaches the outlet, its velocity increases and is drawn away from the nozzle through a connecting channel. As a droplet is ejected from a liquid therebelow, it will have a first trajectory until it is introduced to the high velocity fluid stream at the perimeter of the interior walls of the nozzle. The fluid accordingly steers the momentum of the droplet such that it obtains a second or corrected trajectory. Alternative variations include an electrically chargeable member, e.g., a pin, positionable to be in apposition to the outlet and capillary tubes for controlling the ejection surface of the pool of source fluid.

A portable apparatus for collecting pet feces includes a basin having oppositely spaced edge portions, a planar bottom surface and a pair of oppositely disposed flange portions protruding outwardly. A housing is mounted on top of the basin and includes integral and opaque sidewalls protruding upwardly from the basin. One sidewall has a passageway formed therein. The housing further includes a grass-like top layer positionable on a mesh-like bottom layer. The apparatus further includes wire handles having lower end portions positionable below the top layer and engageable therewith and top end portions protruding upwardly from the sidewalls. The sidewalls allow a user to maintain a substantially stable grip of the top layer when removing the solid feces during non-operating conditions. There is herein described a process for providing improved device performance and fabrication techniques for semiconductors. More particularly, the present invention relates to a process for forming features, such as pixels, on GaN semiconductors using a p-GaN modification and annealing process. The process also relates to a plasma and thermal anneal process which results in a p-GaN modified layer where the annealing simultaneously enables the formation of conductive p-GaNand modified p-GaN regions that behave in an n-like manner and block vertical current flow. The present invention relates to an air guide for use in a disc drive such that air flow can be redirected to improve the efficiency of a filter located within the disc drive. Embodiments of the present invention provide for an air guide having air guide surfaces that, in conjunction with sides of the disc drive housing, are configured to channel air flow off a spinning disc, through a filter, and back into the mainstream air flow. The air guide may be formed as an integral unit with either the inner major surface of the cover or of the baseplate, or both, such that the air guide may extend over part of the disc surface and provide an effective channel for air flow without the need for additional assembly processes during manufacture.

A method (100) of forming a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer includes forming one or more channels in a top surface of a first wafer (104), and forming an insulator layer on a second wafer (106). The second wafer is treated (108) to generate a structural weakness therein, and the first and second wafers together (110) are then bonded together so that the channels face the insulator layer. A portion of the second wafer is then removed (112) from the bonded first and second wafers at a location corresponding to the structure weakness.

A micro-relay that overcomes some of the limitations and drawbacks of the prior art is disclosed. The micro-relay comprising: (1) a first substrate comprising one or more monolithically integrated planar coils for generating a magnetic field; and (2) a second substrate comprising a magnetically actuated switch having a moving contact that selectively moves in a plane parallel to its substrate. The first and second substrate are aligned and bonded to collectively provide a closed magnetic circuit that efficiently channels the generated magnetic field through the switch.

A platform segment for supporting a nozzle guide vane for a gas turbine is provided. The platform segment includes a gas passage surface arranged to be in contact with a streaming gas exhausted from a combustor, wherein the streaming gas streams along the gas passage surface in a streaming direction, a cooling surface, opposite to and thermally connected to the gas passage surface and arranged to be in contact with a cooling fluid, a wall protruding from the cooling surface and extending at least partially in the streaming direction, wherein the wall is arranged circumferentially between positions, at which adjacent guide vanes are to be provided, such that cooling fluid is channeled by the wall for cooling a downstream portion of the cooling surface, and a further wall protruding from the cooling surface and extending at least partially in the streaming direction.

A circular building structure includes a floor, a cylindrical wall extending upwardly from the floor, and a roof mounted on top of the cylindrical side wall. The roof is constructed of a plurality of roof beams which are supported by and extend radially and upwardly from a perimeter of the cylindrical wall toward the center to form a peak having a cylindrical beam tube disposed therein. A plurality of flanges are attached to an outer wall of the beam tube to support the upper inner end of each roof beam and brackets are mounted to the top of the side wall to support the lower ends of the roof beams. An applicator includes a receptacle that has upper and lower portions. The upper portion includes intake ports extending from a top surface thereof. Each port defines an opening at a top end thereof. The lower portion includes a spout extending therefrom. A tubular shaft has a handle portion. A bracket includes arms and a top edge bridged therebetween. A microswitch is disclosed, wherein the microswitch has (1) an electrical path between a first terminal and a second terminal and (2) a closed-loop magnetic path for channeling a magnetic field through a working gap to efficiently actuate the microswitch, where the electrical path and the closed-loop magnetic path are path independent. The electrical path includes a laterally movable mechanically active element. The closed-loop magnetic path includes one or more integrated coils for generating the magnetic field. The microswitch comprises: an electromagnetic module, which includes the one or more coils and some of the magnetic element of the closed-loop magnetic path; and a switch module, which includes the switching elements and the remainder of the magnetic elements of the closed-loop magnetic path. After the modules are joined the magnetic elements on both modules are magnetically coupled to collectively define the closed-loop magnetic path.

A cap includes a flexible body having a dome shape for conveniently conforming to a swimmer's head. The body includes an outer layer and an inner layer spaced from the outer layer such that a cavity is defined therebetween. The inner layer is provided with a plurality of conduits and a strap is integral with the outer layer and travels about a circumference of the cap. A method and apparatus for integrating a stair notch and a gap bump at a pole tip in a write head is disclosed. A protective plated layer is formed over the bump to prevent the bump form being damaged during formation of the notch at the pole tip.
