Upon detection of a suspicious file, a client computer sends feedback data to an anti-malware service over the Internet. Files that are not suspicious or that are known clean are not reported; files that are known malware are acted upon immediately without needing to report them to the anti-malware service. Upon detection, no alert or warning is provided to the user of the client computer. The anti-malware service correlates data from other detection engines on the client computer or from other client computers and determines whether the file is malware or not. A new virus pattern is generated if the file is malware and includes the virus signature of the file; the new virus pattern is distributed back to the client computers. If not malware, no action need be taken, or, the virus signature of the file is removed from existing pattern files.

Improved systems and methods for configuring network devices are provided. Aspects of the invention relate to novel QoS configuration parameters and methods for using QoS configuration parameters to reduce impacts caused by security breach within a network. In one embodiment, a QoS configuration parameter is selected from a plurality of configuration parameters on a central database based upon unique identifying information of a network device and a status signal. In one embodiment, each configuration parameter comprises at least a first parameter for configuring a communication speed of the network device and a second parameter configurable to alter the ability of the network device to communicate with another device in the network. Further aspects of the invention relate to providing improved services to an end user. In one embodiment, services may be customized to an end user and allow increased flexibility for both the service provider and the end user.

This invention provides a method and an apparatus for detecting a short-circuit occurring between a signal line and a ground line of a lead wire. The apparatus comprises a circuit and a resistive element. The circuit has an output terminal, an input terminal and ground. One end of the ground line is connected to the ground of the circuit, and the other end of the ground line is disconnected. A first terminal of the resistive element is connected to the output terminal of the circuit. One end of the signal line is connected to a second terminal of the resistive element, and the other end of the signal line is disconnected. The circuit is configured to provide a first voltage via the output terminal and obtain a second voltage via the input terminal connected to a joint of the signal line and the resistive element, to provide a third voltage via the output terminal and obtain a fourth voltage via the input terminal, to derive an impedance of the lead wire from the first voltage, the second voltage, the third voltage, the fourth voltage and an impedance of the resistive element, and to determine whether a short-circuit occurs or not, based on the impedance of the lead wire and a predefined impedance. In this way, the shorted lead wire can be detected with high accuracy.
