A personal media broadcasting system enables video distribution over a computer network and allows a user to view and control media sources over a computer network from a remote location. A personal broadcaster receives an input from one or more types of media sources, digitizes and compresses the content, and streams the compressed media over a computer network to a media player running on any of a wide range of client devices for viewing the media. The system may allow the user to issue control commands (e.g., “channel up”) from the media player to the broadcaster, causing the source device to execute the commands. The broadcaster and the media player may employ several techniques for buffering, transmitting, and viewing the content to improve the user's experience.

A telecommunications system and method for rapid start-up of a Global Position System (GPS) receiver integrated with a mobile terminal is disclosed. The location of a reference GPS receiver associated with a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) within the cell that the mobile terminal is currently located is used as the local position estimate for that mobile terminal. The GSM TDMA frame numbers are first correlated with the GPS clock signal. Optionally, this correlation is adjusted using the adaptive frame alignment mechanism. This local position estimate is used to ascertain the location of the GPS receiver. The correlation data is then sent to the GPS-capable mobile terminal through the Short Messaging Service (SMS) cell broadcast facility or the Broadcast Control Channel (BCCH) facility of the GSM network to enable the built-in GPS receiver to calculate its position relatively quickly.

The power plant combusts a hydrocarbon fuel with oxygen to produce high temperature high pressure products of combustion. These products of combustion are routed through an expander to generate power. The products of combustion are substantially free of oxides of nitrogen because the oxidizer is oxygen rather than air. To achieve fast starting, oxygen, fuel and water diluent are preferably stored in quantities sufficient to allow the power plant to operate from these stored consumables. The perceived delay between the time a user selects the protected digital media content to when playback of the protected digital media content begins is reduced because retrieval and playback of an unprotected version of a portion of the digital media content starts before the license and protected version of the digital media content is received. A fast start-up low-voltage bandgap voltage reference circuit is proposed. The bandgap voltage reference circuit comprises: a first current generator, which is implemented by a self-bias unit and a current mirror for generating a first reference current with positive temperature coefficient; a second current generator, which is connected to a point with negative temperature coefficient in the first current generator to generate a second reference current with negative temperature coefficient; and a resister for converting the first reference current and the second reference current into a low-voltage bandgap voltage independent of temperature. Because the bandgap voltage reference circuit of the invention uses the resistor to convert the first reference current and the second reference current into voltage, the circuit can provide low-voltage bandgap voltage.

An uninterruptible power supply system has standby and backup modes and can change to backup mode upon detection of a grid fault. In both modes an alternator rotates at synchronous speed so that backup mode capability is ready. An energy storage unit through a DC-AC inverter remains coupled to the grid in standby mode so that it is charged, ready to supply power when changed to backup mode. In standby mode, first and third clutches are disengaged and engaged, transmitting alternator rotary motion to a flywheel but not therefrom to a heat engine. In backup mode, first and third clutch are engaged and disengaged to permit the alternator, via a second clutch, to overrun the flywheel and allow transmitting of flywheel torque to accelerate the heat engine to starting speed for driving the alternator to supply power to the grid after the engine is at operating speed and coupled to the alternator through a locked second clutch and an engaged third clutch.

Two remaining problematic components in conventional designs the final superheater and reheater tubes overheat while their headers remain colder in fast starts. In this inventive HRSG the critical components are arranged and started by a method that limits these damaging temperature differentials. At ignition when exhaust gas surges into a wet superheater steam flow starts minutes before conventional systems. This early steam flow cools the tubes while heating the headers, thereby reducing life damaging stresses. A low power oscillator having fast start-up times. The low power fast starting oscillator uses an oscillator circuit having an input and an output for generating a signal of a desired frequency. A start-up detect circuit is coupled to the output of the oscillator circuit for detecting when the oscillator circuit has reached steady state operation and for generating a start-up circuit output signal which adjusts the gain of the oscillator circuit when steady state operation has been reached by the oscillator circuit. A noise generator is coupled to the input of the oscillator circuit and to the start-up detect circuit for inputting a noise pulse into the oscillator circuit. The noise pulse is used for biasing the input of the oscillator circuit to approximately an optimal bias voltage level. The noise generator is further used for sending an enable start-up detect signal to the start-up detect circuit to activate the start-up detect circuit. A prestress circuit is coupled to the input and to the output of the oscillator circuit for prestressing a piezoelectric resonator of the oscillator circuit to shorten start-up times of the oscillator circuit. The prestress circuit is further used for sending an enable noise generator signal to the noise generator to activate the noise generator.

A method and circuit for providing a soft start-up process for an amplifier circuit to reduce or prevent destructive overshoot of an output voltage are provided. In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, an exemplary method and circuit are configured to suitably momentarily replace an actual fixed reference voltage with a second reference voltage during the start-up process. Such a method and circuit can provide a fast start-up process without destructive overshoot and without affecting or compromising any control loop of the amplifier circuit, and can be configured within various applications.
