Passive RFID postage stamps and method of using the same

A system and method for postage payment utilizes passive RFID tags as postage “stamps”, with the amount of the postage automatically billed to a previously-established customer account. The tags are stored in a separate stamp database and are “enabled” by linking the individual tag to a customer account. The use of the RFID stamps eliminates the need for the customer to know the proper postage beforehand. The existence of a customer account with a proper return address reduces the likelihood of a dead letter. Also, a special category of stamps may be used for automatic reply mail. By virtue of using an RFID tag, the mailed item's progress through the postal delivery system may be tracked from dispatch to delivery.

Dual-counterdoped channel field effect transistor and method

A field effect transistor with a dual-counterdoped channel is disclosed. The transistor features a channel comprising a first doped region (28) and a second doped region (26) underlying the first doped region. A source and drain (32) are formed adjacent to the channel. In one embodiment of the present invention, the first doped region (28) is doped with arsenic, while the second doped region (26) is doped with phosphorus. The high charge-carrier mobility of the subsurface channel layer (28) allowing a lower channel dopant concentration to be used, which in turn allows lower source / drain pocket doping. This reduces the capacitance and response time of the transistor.

Ink jet printing apparatus and ink jet printing method

There is provided an ink jet printing apparatus that suppresses density unevenness caused by a difference in print time resulting from printing based on a bidirectional multi-pass printing system. With a relatively small print medium width, the time difference unevenness does not occur even in 2 pass printing. Accordingly, the 2 pass printing is selected. With a relatively large print medium width, selection of the 2 pass printing may make the density unevenness significant. Accordingly, the density unevenness is suppressed by selecting 8 pass printing. That is, in the 8 pass printing, the same area is scanned eight times, which is four times as frequent as the twice in the 2 pass printing. This reduces the size of each area having different densities, while increasing a cycle frequency at which a high and low densities are alternately repeated. As a result, the time difference unevenness is not perceived easily.

Multiplex switching

Multiplex switching is disclosed for readily multiplexing and switching packet data without causing a delay. Bit widths of packets supplied from a plurality of input channels are unified to a previously set bit width. The packets unified in bit width are synchronized among the plurality of input channels. The synchronized packets are spread by multiplying them by orthogonal codes based on the input channels. The spread packets are multiplexed, and multiplexed packets are multiplied respectively by orthogonal codes for switching according to the input channels on which the packets delivered to output channels have been supplied, to reconstruct the packets supplied from the input channels. The packets are then delivered to the output channels.

Method for Improving Aircraft Engine Operating Efficiency

A method is provided that extends available aircraft engine warm up and cool down times without extending total aircraft time on the ground. Aircraft that have engines with longer than average or longer than typical warm up and cool down times and are equipped with electric taxi systems are driven during hybrid taxi-out and taxi-in periods when the aircraft engines at lowest throttle settings are operating simultaneously with the electric taxi drive systems to move the aircraft during ground travel. The hybrid taxi-out and taxi-in periods ensure optimal steady, even warm up and cool down of engine components by takeoff and upon arrival and avoid thermally-induced structural deformations of engine components that adversely affect engines during flight. Aircraft engines may be designed to rely on the extended warm up and cool down times provided by the hybrid taxi periods without increasing aircraft ground travel time or negatively impacting airport operations.
