The method comprises the following steps of: selecting three temperature measuring points on a shell of a bus, and respectively measuring the temperature of three-phase conductors in the bus; providing an ambient temperature detection point in a predetermined range of the shell so as to obtain the ambient temperature; comparing the temperature of the three-phase conductors and the ambient temperature so as to respectively obtain temperature rises of the three-phase conductors; when the temperature is greater than the predetermined maximum allowed temperature rise, judging as the overheating fault of the bus; otherwise, storing the temperature rises of the three-phase conductors, and obtaining a temperature difference change trend meter according to the stored temperature rises; when the temperature trend meter shows that the temperature rise is continuously increased in the predetermined time, judging as the overheating fault of the bus.
