Ergonomic pipette tip

An ergonomically designed pipette tip that can be securely mounted to a barrel of a pipetter yet is designed to substantially reduce the axial force necessary to install and eject the pipette tip from the pipetter thus reducing the injuries resulting in repetitive stress injury to the thumb and hand. The new ergonomic pipette tip incorporates a separate sealing member constructed from an elastomer that is coupled to the more rigid and chemically inert elongated tubular member that becomes the receptacle for transferring the fluid sample aspirated by the pipetter. The new elastomeric sealing member allows for greater sealing capability or squeeze between the pipetter barrel and the new pipette tip while lowering the coefficient of friction between the mating parts, thus decreasing the axial ejection forces require to overcome the breakaway friction between the new ergonomic pipette tip and the pipetter.

Case keyboard

The case keyboard is an input device that folds around an electronic instrument to protect it and provide ease of transport. Because of its small size and portability, the case keyboard is very practical for providing instructions to electronic instruments that are small in themselves, enabling both devices to be easily transported. The electronic instrument could be a personal digital assistant (PDA), small computer, calculator, telephone, or other portable machines. The first embodiment of the case keyboard has a standard set of keys on a substrate. The second embodiment uses a touch-pad switch to multiplex the character designation of a small set of keys and a gently motion of the thumb. The multiplexing reduces the number of keys while still providing designation of about 160 characters. Shorter finger-motions reduce the probability of repetitive stress injuries. A third embodiment incorporates the entire instrument into a case keyboard with a pop-up viewing screen flexibly attached.

Method and application of a self adhesive splint

The device is a thin, self-adhesive non-stretch splint, having the capability to flex. This device is intended for the treatment of repetitive stress injuries such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with elements that provide user adjustable limitation of movement within acceptable medical parameters. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms include pain and numbness in the thumb, index, and middle fingers, that are aggravated by compression of the median nerve. This device limits flexion, extension, ulnar and radial deviation movements of the wrist without compressing the median nerve The device limits movement by reducing skin elasticity on the surface skin above or below the wrist and up the forearm. The application provides biomechanical feedback to the wearer in the form of the tugging sensation on the skin around the perimeter of the device assisting the user in maintaining a more neutral wrist position without imposing wrist immobilization. The design elements allow the use of the device in such a manner that produces no additional pressure to the median nerve while in use. Furthermore the method of application provides a means for the user to regulate the amount of wrist movement to provide a greater comfort level while still limiting movement within medically proven parameters. The adhesive nature of the device eliminates the need for external straps that normally wrap completely around the forearm and hand to hold a splint in place. The application of the device limits movement by greatly reducing the ability of the skin to stretch by placing a self-adhesive non-stretch splint directly on the skin. The device, and how it is placed utilizes the wearers skin elasticity to provide biomechanical feedback to the user to promote better wrist posture.

Hand stretching method for preventing and treating repetitive stress injury

A hand stretching method and apparatus mimics a well known exercise to reduce the problems with repetitive stress injury. A body of resiliently deformable material has flat and parallel top and bottom surfaces, with a cutout at one edge of the body. A user's hand is placed on the body, with the palm of the hand spanning the cutout. By pushing down on the hand, the opposite sides of the palm are urged apart, opening the carpal tunnel and relieving compression on the blood vessels and nerves. A user may place one hand on each surface of the body and urge the hands towards each other for treatment of both hands simultaneously. The body is preferably made of an expanded polymeric material such as polyurethane. Layers having different compression factors may be utilized; and, darker colored surface layers of material may be adhered to the top and bottom surfaces so the surfaces will not readily show dirt.
